Came today for early lunch. We have heard so much about this place especially since they are run by the original owners of Lepak Kopitiam. So we had relatively high expectations. The roti bakar and drinks we cannot fault (not pictured). They are pretty good and was demolished by the kids. Unfortunately the rest their other dishes that we tried were a bit more average. Nothing too exciting. Starters dishes (lor bak and pork belly) were pretty small portion for the price ($14.90). And they aren’t exceptional either. Pork belly was way overcooked in my opinion as you can see the centre meat drying out. Ipoh hor fun was a bit plain. Acceptable but felt not enough flavour and toppings. The assam fish (recommended dish by them) has a great soup flavour, but there is too much bone in each fillet. I think its because they included both the middle bones and the fin bones in each pieces. So every bite becomes quite annoying. Don’t get me wrong I am an asian and grew up eating fish with bones, but the way they fry it makes it hard to anticipate where the bones are before biting. Also the okra weren’t well cooked, there were 4 pieces but 2 of them are too chewy and can’t even be eaten even when I tried. Paid $21.90 for this, so I expected better. Places were packed but it was quite obvious when waitresses standing near our table (three of them even at one stage) before we were finished. Not very pleasant, especially since I still had my coffee to finish. Can’t help but feeling rushed. Auntie helping us when we pay were kind and very friendly though. Lots of smile so that at least gave me a better impression at the end. Apart from that, I would not hesitate returning for a serve of asian brekky knowing the reputation they have. But will probably stick to a more familiar and simple dishes next time.

New sign board but everything else is the same from my last sad patronage. Clipboard menu tattered and torn that takes you through a mix of breakfast, lunch, dinner items bunched together. Traditional items such as kaya toast just could not be found. I remember it was labelled as bakar (means burnt - term for well toasted). Actually a toaster is used - not actual ambers. Ordered Fried Bihun (also known as Mee Hoon) that was oil soaked, Chee Cheong Fun that was as thick as wraps and black coffee that has tea infused taste. For $35 what could be done to bring it close to Malaysia or Singapore? Plenty. Reduce portions and raise authenticity of taste. Invest in simple Chee Cheong Fun devise to get fluffy texture. Kopi - o can do with close to home roasted beans. And for menus - that shows your pride which is sorely absent. Good crowd with people like me who have to settle for what there is until another excuse to fly home to get the ‘fix’. When will Perth experience authenticity that actually does not need to cost $35. Think about it? Just about finished writing this and realised the thirst building up. MSG is not spared.

Authentic Malaysian joint. I’ve been told early birds get good start & this spot is definitely a good example. They open at 9am and you can get your favorite Malaysian delishes. On fly out days, I’m there to grab a bite of home before work. Their Prawn Noodles is yum and so is their Char Kway Teow. Unfortunately, I can only go there in the mornings because later on in the day - parking is a nightmare. It’s on the Main Street at Victoria Park, so imagine that. Price wise, mid-range I would say $15-$20 for a dish and drink. It’s the new facelift Kopitiams you see at hip street back in Malaysia. Give it a try, easily enjoyable and recommended.

What can I say But, thank goodness I was sent a message with a U Tube attachment all about Lepak Kopitiam Vic Park. ON AIR Jim the owner described in detail the meaning of Lepak which basically it's simply "Chill or Hangout" This included in detail his drive and intentions to bring to all the authentic Ipoh Delights to passionate lovers of delicious delicacies of Malaysia. (Please checkout the Menu) Both my wife and I immediately made and online booking for 2 for 1800hours for this evening. Wow it turned out to be an "experience unforgettable". Greeted and wecomed by Kevin, who can only be described as a well mannered young man with a friendly, enthusiastic customer approach with customer satisfaction high on his work ethic agenda. We found the table for 2 that we chose was a little cold, and brought it to Kevins attention. Without hesitation he promptly accommodated us toward the back with a heater behind us. Thanks so much Kevin, you're most thoughtful. Much appreciated. We ordered 4 dishes including a pot of Chinese tea for 2. Then for starters we had chicken sate, followed by a Penang Char Quay Teow, then Salt and Pepper Squid. Then Kang Kong belachan ( spicy vegetable) It's also help yourself to all sauces, chillies and utensils. Kool!! Now all the above dishes we have to say was excitingly Delicious, as it's been a long time since we ate Authentic Ipoh hawker food that's trandsends you to Malaysia in a matter of a couple of hours. Will recommend this Authentic Malaysian Restaurant to everyone with yearning tastebuds for fantastic Tucker. Admittedly there's a whole host of dishes to taste yet, But going by what we've tasted Plus having the honor of meeting Jim the owner in person and lovely wife Ning, son and family, both my wife and I can conclude that we've met a genuine family with Hospitality that's top of their determination to satisfy the taste buds of the most fastidious diners. Oh incidentally the Ipoh Milk Coffee also brought back memories, also Lepak Kopitiam is opened for breakfast for everyone who desires their tastebuds to bring past tastes renewd. Yes it's all possible at Lepak Kopitiam Victoria Park.

ENJOY AND BON...
