Cafe Savvy — Restaurant in Victoria

Warmly welcomed by friendly staff & told to grab our menus & return to the counter to place our order. We found a spot & reviewed the menu to find it was of a typical size with your standard breakfast items on offer. We ordered 2 lattes - 1 x Mug Oat milk Latte & 1 x regular cup with a Smashed Avo plus a side of bacon & a Mushroom toast with added eggs & a hash brown.

Coffee’s were a good temp & had the obligatory coffee art but fell flat - quite ‘weak’ with no aroma, no flavour.

The smashed avo was a good size with lots of crumbled feta, rocket garnish & the eggs were poached well & the bacon was nicely done. The avo purée was commercial product from a tub or pouch & the toast was more like warmed bread. My Mushroom toast was barely toasted too - it was spread with ricotta & had plenty of mushrooms, rocket & Parmesan cheese with nicely poached eggs - it seems rare to find 2 eggs added for the one price 👍👍 but lacked any real seasoning - the hash brown was golden + crunchy - it was a commercial product & sadly it had an ‘old oil’ taste.

Overall there was no hum or buzz, no background music & therefore lacked atmosphere/ambience. Though the staff were friendly...

Savvy is a large and beautiful cafe that provide surprisingly little in the way of food options. Their main food items seem to be toasted sandwiches and bagels so I opted for the toasted Ruben sandwich and an orange juice. I was happy to find the juice fresh and delicious. The Ruben sandwich was large and properly toasted with golden crusty bread. There was plenty of meat, cheese and sauerkraut, just the way a Ruben sandwich should be. They even made it their own with a touch of cocktail sauce. I had never tasted this in a Ruben sandwich before but I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it tasted. It really kicked it up a notch. Friendly service too. So while they do not really focus on the sort of brunch type meals you expect to see at a CBD cafe they do make...

Would highly recommend coming here for a bite to eat or just a coffee... Especially if your a coffee lover, the house coffee is absolutely delicious which is only complemented by the barista as they know how to work with the coffee bean, giving it the respect it needs so you can taste it’s true flavour.. A very well set up stylish hip establishment that just oozes the finer things in life but you still feel like you haven’t lift the comfort of your home... Staff are amazing, very polite, friendly and go that extra step to be as helpful as they can to make sure you receive exactly what your looking for.. I’ll be coming back here...
