Fish-A-Fare — Restaurant in Victoria

This was close to the worst fish and chips meal I have eaten in 60 years. I have experienced hundreds of fish and chip dinners. I waited 25 minutes from the time i gave my order. When I picked up the package from the counter I instantly noticed a lack of heat. I gave benefit of the doubt. But on opening the package 5 minutes later I was right. Everything was barely warm. The chips were limp and small. The fish and dim sim over cooked. The fish batter was full of oil and had to be removed to consume the fish. The flavour of the luke warm oil did nothing but make the fish sickly to eat. While in the store I saw about 8 baskets of cooked seafood hanging over the strainer for a good 15 minutes of which all looked very dark in colour to what I have seen with similar good quality fish and chips. ...

We were recommended this place by the venue we were staying at, and they did not disappoint. While I was waiting to order, the manager was chatting with one of their regulars in a friendly manner, and when it was my turn to order, I was offered a choice of fresh or processed for a number of my choices - I personally would always pick fresh, but I appreciate the choice - then while I waited I listened to her instructing one of the junior staff in the specifics of cooking the fish I'd ordered.

The seafood did not disappoint. All was cooked expertly, and was tender and tasty. Their chips and potato cakes were a little bland, but I prefer my fish to be the shining star of a fish and chips experience. Will make sure I return the next...

We came in for a late lunch during our stay in Lakes Entrance and disappointed is an understatement. We had snapper, flake, flathead tails, prawns, calamari, scallops and chips. The batter is thick and absorbs SO SO much oil. The pieces of fish are small, but battered they look a lot bigger. The scallops are not fresh, they stink and ruined the experience for us. The calamari is unfortunately of a very low quality, extremely small thin pieces of calamari encased is a massive amount of crumb.
