Fortyone — Restaurant in Victoria

When we are out and about we do like to enjoy the local cafes for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We finally got around to visiting fortyone for breakfast and yeah the place was pretty full. Grabbed some menus and we weren’t sure whether we had to wait to be seated or just sit at any table we liked. Browsed the menu and once again we weren’t sure if we had to order at the counter or somebody came to get our order, very confusing to say the least. The staff never really came out from behind the counter except one guy delivering food to a table, once we went and ordered our food and drinks sat down and chatted while we waited. Yes it states we went for breakfast but by the time we got our food it was brunch time, small serving compared to other places around here ( using smaller plates to make the serving look big does not work). It seems the guy bringing the meals out was the cook and the server who spent the whole time apologising for the wait. Coffee was good but food was of average quality and we wouldn’t really recommend this place over other places in town. Haven’t been to many places where the staff do not at least mix and chat with customers but this place has set quite a high bar for nonexistent...

Stopped by Forty One for a casual lunch and went straight for the classic calamari & chips.

It was exactly what I needed—golden, crispy, and satisfying. The calamari rings were coated in a crunchy batter that gave way to soft and tender squid inside. Super satisfying to bite into!

The chips were fluffy inside, just the right amount of salty, and paired perfectly with the creamy tartare sauce on the side. The small salad with a dash of dressing added a nice refreshing contrast.

The portion was generous too—enough to fill me up without being overwhelming. The whole experience had a very relaxed feel, typical of a cozy Aussie café. Would definitely come back again when I’m craving a crunchy, comforting plate like this.

Where do I start. I don't like giving bad reviews. But I hope it helps make the place even better.

We heard they have a world famous vanilla slice here. So of course we went in. Line was decent. About 3 people in front of us. But even with 3 people it took ages to get to the front to give our order. One lady in the line even left cause it was taking so long.

When we got to the front the woman serving us didn't seem like she wanted to be there. But I went ahead and ordered my slice to have in.

It was right near her in the glass cabinet. Just needed to put it on a plate and order is done. Nope. Gave us a number. Sat us down. Which is fine... But to have to wait nearly 15-20mins for a vanilla slice. Honestly I could have gotten up myself and got it if I knew it would take this long.

End of the day the vanilla slice was pretty decent. Not world famous. Again... I don't like these reviews. But if it's going to make this place better, it...
