Wasn't thrilled, but might be willing to give it another go.
It's always a concern when a Chinese restaurant has the tables set with knives and forks instead of chopsticks. That really should have clued me to the fact that this was going to be very Australian.
I got the sizzling beef with Cantonese sauce and a side of rice. The sizzling plate came out separately, so that I had to assemble at the table, which is definitely a first. The meat was fine, well tenderised, and cooked well. The sauce was really very, very sweet. The primary flavour I got was pineapple juice. Not thrilled, but okay, maybe just the way they make it here. Veggies are crisp and yummy.
The rice was dry, like it had been left in a bain marie too long. The waitress was good about bringing me out a fresher serving though, so points for that.
The Chinese tea I ordered came with a tea bag, rather than loose leaf, which is probably just nitpicky of me, but... C'mon.
What really annoyed me was the staff starting to vacuum with half an hour left till close. I can excuse clearing all my plates rapidly and resetting the restaurant, but I was still drinking my tea. In the end, I left before finishing it, as it was clear I wasn't wanted anymore.
$25.50 for the meal $5 each for the rice and tea.
A bit pricier than I would expect for the area, especially when the quality is much less than you'd get in Sydney or Melbourne. However, they were generous portions, and I have enough leftovers for...
Read moreFirst of all these guys are not licenced so no alcohol available although they do accept BYO alcohol, (didn't realise this untill we arrived). So that was disappointing. Secondly I always judge a Chinese restaurants authenticity by whether they have chop sticks at the table, these guys do not, western cutlery only, I had to ask for chop sticks to be brought to the table, (it should be the other way round guys). So that was disappointing too. Orders are taken at the table by a waitress which is good, food was reasonably quick to arrive, about 15 mins so that was good also. I liked the way these guys served their rice in a steel canister, it's different to what other Chinese restaurants do and keeps the rice insulated and hotter for longer, so that is a good point too. The food it's self was very good, combination chao mein was sensational! The Garlic and Chilli Duck was very good too, I found it strange that their entrees are served as either 3 pieces or 5' pieces so when sharing with a partner (as you usually do with an entree) one partner gets less than the other partner. Over not a bad dining experience, 3...
Read moreThe one time we got a main dish from this place it was disgusting. Simple as that, it was rubbery and don't even think about leaving it in the fridge to have the next day because it's actually not edible. We haven't ordered a main dish since it was that bad. Stupidly overpriced I might add!!!
The fried rice is amazing though, always great! A little expensive for rice, actually one of the most expensive rice on the border. But you get what you pay for.
Now, don't bother paying attention to the open times on Google because they're never right. You can't count on them. Even when they're open they don't really answer the phone, at one stage we hadn't ordered from here for 3 months because every time we called to order they never picked up and they were open. So don't count on them picking...
