I will not be going back.
I am local to the Bendigo region, and have been to many places around bendigo for dinner. When we decided that we would try something new for lunch we landed ourselves in the very not busy Oya’s cafe. The service from the one young girl behind the counter was mediocre, but i couldn’t blame her as she was seemingly running the whole shop by herself. We paid 40 dollars for two kebabs and a coke, and sat down at a dirty table, next to the owners who were sorting some papers and sitting on their phones. They didn’t approach anyone, or assist the girl behind the counter, they just sat and spoke in another language as they watched the poor girl struggle to serve take away and dine in orders in the cafe. The food we received 45 minutes after ordering, was poorly put together, soggy and overall very disappointing and not worth the 40 dollars we had spent. The kebab was wrapped in paper that had stuck to the wrap, we ate 40 dollars worth of Kebab that had paper stuck to them, and their contents were old and not very well cooked. The experience was very disappointing, as the owner (a small male) then proceeded to yell and abuse the girl behind the counter very loudly, and everyone in the restaurant was looking around, because at this point not one of us had received any food. I would not recommend ever wasting time going to this restaurant, as it was the worst overall experience in Bendigo that i have had. I recommend just heading over to Cafe Istanbul to get great service and...
Read moreAbsolutely blown away by Oya's Turkish Kitchen! We started with the Sarma Dolma, and wow, those four pieces of grape leaves, hand-wrapped with a mild herbed rice mixture and drizzled with garlic yoghurt, were absolutely amazing – a perfect start to our meal. My husband then had the Iskender with the toasted Turkish bread, and it was a masterpiece. The thinly sliced doner meat, rich homemade tomato sauce, and creamy yoghurt dressing combined with the perfect crunch of the bread was pure bliss. He kept raving about every single bite! I went for the Mixed Grill, and it was an absolute feast fit for royalty. Each component was cooked to perfection – the tender lamb shish, juicy chicken shish, perfectly grilled lamb cutlet, flavourful kofte, and both the rotisserie lamb and chicken were incredibly succulent. The crispy salad, fluffy rice, warm Turkish pita bread, and delicious dip rounded out an unforgettable meal. And for dessert, we tried the in-dining baklava with Nutella it was so unbelievably good, perfectly sweet without being overpowering, that we just had to leave with four more to take home, thanks to the lovely lady in the kitchen! Everything tasted so fresh and authentic. We left feeling incredibly satisfied and already planning our next visit to Oya's Turkish Kitchen in Bendigo! A definite 5 stars you have to...
Read moreHands down, such a superb meal, atmosphere, and delight to have spent a day in Bendigo for my mum's birthday, only to end up having dinner at one of the best restaurants.
There was a delightful rainbow lorikeet, friendly staff and owner, scrumptious meals which were generous portions and flavour packed, as well as the option to buy some Turkish Apple Tea to take home and enjoy! (Seriously, don't sleep on the Turkish Apple Tea - it's astounding and delicious and you'll want more!)
The range of options, including vegetarian, was delightful. Hands down, the falafels and hommus will bring you joy.
These falafels were clearly made recently and not dry at all. Just delicous.
My mum, who generally doesn't eat much at all, ate nearly her whole Lamb kebab - and my partner devoured the iskender mixed meat. There wasn't much left at all of my fabulous vegetarian meal.
If I were to find one thing that could be improved, it would be that there weren't enough cutlery pieces or napkins, but I could just get some from other tables as needed (and frankly, if you're short staffed, this is something that can be forgiven).
I'll definitely be coming back again. I had such a wonderful experience, my mum had only the best things to say about her time there, and my fiancé is still full after a 2 hour drive home.
Winner winner...
