Had an unfortunately disappointing experience at tomahawks last night. Starting with the positives our eggplant, broccoli and calamari were tasty and as expect from the menu and our service from our original waitress who was young with dark hair was very nice.
From that point things went down hill, the lamb ribs were extremely fatty and not rendered down at all, I had to scrape off the mushy fat to be able to eat them and there was very little actual meat. I ate 2 of the 4 ribs and left the rest. Next we had a new waitress who had lighter hair that was in an updo come by and ask if we were enjoying everything and I explained the flavours on the lamb were really nice but I wasn't enjoying it purely because it was so incredibly fatty she said "oh ok" and walked away. Why ask if you don't want to know? I also asked for a glass of sparkling water to wash the fat down and she said would I like a bottle of capi and I said no soda water is fine, at the end of the meal I realised they had charged me $5 for soda tap sparkling had this been explained I would have had the bloody capi.
Eventually she returned with my water and asked would we like a takeaway container for our leftovers, I said no thank you I didn't enjoy the lamb at all so don't want to take it away and she said "I wasn't asking YOU about THAT, I meant the vegetables" we said no thank you but we'd like dessert so then we were waiting on a menu for that
We sat for about 25 minutes with a table full of finished plates and no dessert menu waiting while this waitress had a full on chat with the customer sitting across from us and then when she was done she walked off without acknowledging is again.
Next the nice younger dark hair waitress returned with our dessert which was the deep fried ice cream, it was delicious very well done on the fry and the flavours, unfortunately the caramel sauce was very sandy because not all the sugar had been dissolved but it certainly was better compared to the lamb and we'd already gathered no one cares if you have a complaint so just ate what we could.
We finally went to pay the bill and again we were at the counter and the waitress we'd had our awkward encounters with just ignored us and we were eventually given our bill by the bartender and evidently the $25 lamb and the $5 sparkling were still on the bill. At that point feeling like no one actually cared we didn't enjoy ourselves we just paid and left but take this as a cautionary tale in regards to the service and the finishes on the meals. If you're looking for a special night out this is probably...
Read moreService is excellent. Ambience is great for both indoor and outdoor dining. Price is similar to everywhere else around town. The lamb was very tasty and falls off the bone. The sprinkle of crushed nuts added a crunch to the well seasoned lamb, the accompanying mash was not salty or flavourful but it was good as a filler. The pulled pork burger was standard, a little too sweet for my taste. The chopped cabbage and Mayo added flavour and texture but overall, I wasn't pleased with the burger. I'd give it 5/10. The side dish of crispy chunky fries were good. The pricing for a meal here is standard pub meal but the two negatives I draw is firstly, the lamb was not enough. Four finger size and length lamb ribs on a tea cup plate. By the time you take out the meat you've got yourself half a mouthful of delicious lamb and that's it!!! For $22, it was not worth it, especially if you've been climbing mystic mountain and downhill five times in the arvo. Had to go down to the arvo nearby and had some curry and also a lamb kebab just to satisfy my hunger.
If you'd like to sit and chat and catch up with friends in a nice venue overlooking the camp sites and river then this is for you. Maybe eat before dining here or you'll probably need to order three dishes per person. I'm 178cm 80kg and for $22 that was just an appetiser. Wife got the burger and fries and she was still hungry. Had three glasses of water and still hungry. I'm not exaggerating the portion size. The tastes are awesome. So if you want quality and trade off quantity then...
Read moreWe came into Bright a little late on a quiet Thursday night. We were originally headed for the Bright Brewery for a post 3.5 hour drive dinner but unfortunately we’re informed that their kitchen was shut already before 8pm. A quick look at Google threw up Tomahawk as an option. I couldn’t call them to check if their kitchen was still open so we took a chance and drove there anyway. It was easy to park right out the front, and immediately I liked the look of the place from the outside. Very inviting. We were greeted as soon as we entered (3 of us) and we asked if the kitchen was still open. At this stage it was about 8:05pm. “100%” was the answer. Great! We’re on…good news for three starving blokes…but will this feed be any good? The waitress asked if we had been there before (I like that) and then explained the menu for us. I order the beef sandwich (burger) and my mates each had a chicken burger (also called a sandwich). One with double chicken, one with bacon added. The burgers were $23, add $8 for the extra chicken, add $3 for the bacon. We didn’t wait too long for the meals to be served. They were magnificent! Really hit the spot and not greasy but a good balance of burger and filling, served with nice medium thickness chips. It was a nice warm atmosphere and looks like a great place to dine outside. The place was less than a quarter full at the time. We will definitely be back to try the lamb ribs as they sounded good too. I...
