I really wanted to like Wild but it was disappointing at every step. They have some interesting drinks on the menu which was the only enjoyable part of the evening.

The food was all a letdown except the side potatoes. The croquettes lacked flavour, although the aioli was good. The barramundi wing was poorly balanced with the fish caramel dominating the dish to the point you can't taste anything else. The chicken was terribly balanced too, pretty much flavourless and oily. The cos salad tasted like nothing either. All the food looked good on paper but when it came out almost nothing was worth the cost.

Unfortunately the service didn't make up for it either. Water glasses were not filled unless we asked, it was hard to flag someone down to ask, they took the drinks menu away at the start and no one came to ask if we wanted a second drink, we requested no beetroot in the chicken which they forgot.

The windows were open since it was a nice day but this meant there were flies everywhere making it hard to eat. We were constantly waving away many flies through the meal.

The staff were friendly and nice but the meal overall was not worth...

Went with a friend and was gob smacked by the sophisticated yet relaxed ambience and food. Wild is not a place to go to eat, it's for the finest discriminating dining experience. Everything reeks of thoughtfulness from the decor, the menu the drinks... these days I find a useful yardstick for the craftsmanship of a restaurant is to check out it's mock cocktails. These guys know how to pack flavor into a mock negroni. The food is equally brilliant, the craftsmanship in the kitchen amazing. We shared several plates and each was exquisitely balanced. But the best part of Wild are the owners. A young couple with two young kids making sustainable choices for their lives, their kids, their family. All of which is reflected in their restaurant. I will be back next I'm...

Wild was the perfect little find in Castlemaine. Decor was so gorgeous, with a refitted old fire brigade. The interior was filled with soothing wood.

Food was utterly delicious. We wanted to try everything on the menu and managed to get through at least half of the menu between the four of us! Everything was astounding. Presented fabulously and tasted amazing.

Drinks list was extensive and cocktails were full of flavour.

Be prepared to pay a little extra for the great fresh produce and service out in a small country town. But I would definitely recommend it to anyone...

The tourist brochure trumpets that Castlemaine is a foodie haven & Wild sure lives up to it👍👌 The owners wait the tables - so you get proper knowledgeable service. Mains are fine dining quality at reasonable prices & desserts are delish. Former heritage fire station has been given an edgy makeover - so the whole dining experience is top notch. Pre-booking is a must & there are 2 sessions for dinner. Recommend the pork belly & dauphinoise potatoes. Half roast chicken can be shared & side of roast potatoes is divine. Coconut pannacotta is light & tasty.

The food here is spectacular, with really unique flavours and high quality ingredients. Loved every single dish they served. (Side note: you can buy their pear and date chutney in jars and you really should as it’s delicious - goes really well with halloumi.) As it used to be a fire station, the interior has a really unique and charming vibe too. Most importantly, the owner, Toby, seems to be a really decent human being and clearly takes great pride in his business (deservedly so!). Well worth a visit if you’re anywhere near Castlemaine.

Very busy Saturday evening and they were short-staffed but managed perfectly. Started with limoncello spritz and then moved to the recommended rosé. Plump Pacific Bay oysters with shallot and Chardonnay vinegar were a great starter. Highly recommend! Eggplant and smoked mozzarella croquettes and the barramundi wing were incredible too! Then we shared a selection of dishes for mains, the duck pappardelle and crispy pork belly were the real highlights but everything was just so good.
