2024 Update: Since this was sold, the quality is really hit and miss. Some days the pies are borderline yuk, and the flavour of the lamingtons is weird. Such a shame to see a Wagga icon in decline. The owner has since responded, sadly but clearly trying to dismiss an objective review. It’s important to note that Dirk and I have been going to the bakery, since we were 4 so the initial review reflects a historical view in support of the bakery. Unfortunately, the quality is without doubt slipping in some of the products. The lamingtons are without doubt worse, it’s one of the most noticeable changes. I hope I’m wrong, and I hope the bakery remains as good as it was for years to come, but definitely not the best lately. 2022: “What? How.” You will say, as you enter this bakery. True blue bakeries like this are few and far between in this French patisserie, vegan brownie world of today. The pies here are award winning, and you’ll feel like you’ve won when you sink your teeth into a pepper steak or potato pie. Their lamingtons are quite possibly the best in Australia as well, so don’t miss out on those.

Update 3/12/24: Have been back since, got Cheap Tuesday deal with a sausage roll when I was deadly hungry. Huge meat filling, flaky golden pastry and this time around warm, cheerful service :) sandwich bar was closed by then, will be back to try! Original post: Pepper pie is good, good kick from the pepper, crispy flaky crust. Big dung fly whizzing around in the cool display cabinet but the server couldn't care less, seems like she was grumpy today, rough handling everything and speaking in loud, short monotone. Dark inside. Sandwich bar, will try this next time. Went here because of its good reputation and the food seems decent but service and hygiene left me feeling angry.

Visited O’Brien’s on this cheap Tuesday during our brief stay in Wagga, after seeing all the good reviews. There were only two varieties of pies left as we arrived an hour and a half before closing, and both were delicious and affordably priced at $3.50 each with free sauce (be warned though, the curry pie has a spicy kick!). The girls who served us were also lovely. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back here next time I’m in Wagga!

I was looking forward to trying this place and their salad rolls. Good selection of pre made rolls and similar. A warmer full of pies and similar and a great section of cakes and slices.

I got a salad roll and sausage roll. Sadly, the salad roll was wrapped in cling wrap and roll was soggy, indicating to me it was not fresh that day. Sausage roll was tasteless and dry.

Will I go again? With parking hard to get maybe not but time will tell. They had a salad bar so maybe if I asked, they could make fresh.

19/11/24. UPDATE.

The original review was done ages ago and have been back many times since. Everything has been exceptional. Food, service and selections. The staff a very friendly. In all the visits since I have only had one item, a pastie that was very dry for my taste. The salad roll's have been perfect and sausage roll although the pasty was a little dry it was still enjoyable. On the naughty side, the cream buns are not to miss. Well worth being naughty.

Parking is still a premium but if you are prepared to drive around block a couple of times, it is worth...
