Sal’s Pizzeria Wangaratta — Restaurant in Wangaratta

I eat, a lot! But after travelling 6 hours on the road the wife and I decided on getting pizza for dinner, and randomly choose Sal’s. It turned out to be the best decision of a lifetime. As I said, I eat a lot, and the pizza we had at Sal’s ranks as best, or equal best we’ve had in 25 years. We had the family size Sal’s special with added anchovies. I’m pretty sure this pizza has everything in the shop on it. It was delicious and generously sized, the flavours worked beautifully together with the anchovies adding that burst of saltiness and umami. The dine in seating is a little tight for us but fine for more slender customers. The staff were friendly and attentive. I was particularly impressed with the girl working the “front of house” and cash register, she was super friendly and dealt with a multitude of takeaway customers and dine in customers with a smile and a calm attitude. Everything was quick, fresh and hot and the price was as expected ($45) for a family pizza and a beer. If Sal’s pizzeria wasn’t 6 hours away I’d be here every week. Well...

I hesitate to give this review because I was looked after well, the staff were lovely, and I have been only once. I ate in and ordered the prawn and chilli jam large pizza. Not quite a disaster but not far off. This restaurant only does pizza and a few sides, it has good reviews generally and so I ordered pizza to eat in. The good bits were the fresh rocket and the prawns. Sadly that’s where the good news ends. The pizza itself was poor. The dough was under salted, the pizza was undercooked, slathered in so much chilli jam that it was almost a dessert pizza and doused in some liquid that made it soggy and cold. I won’t go on any more about the tomato base being too liquid or the cheese bland and sparse. At least don’t have this pizza and in my opinion find another...

The pizza is amazing. Worth every cent. I was at their opening night where they had taste tests for all of the pizzas on the menu and I was delighted by the culinary experience. The staff are friendly and professional, the variety of pizza is ample, the quality of the food and toppings is on point and the décor is trendy, light and open. Also, the bases are well made and the pizzas don't have as much oil as other pizzas ive eaten. It's the kind of place you'd find in a fancy part of...
