We have given Due South many chances to impress us as we frequent many pubs and restaurants throughout the Albany region. Unfortunately, after so many attempts, we are still unimpressed. We have been told previously that Due South food wasn't the best, we like to decide for ourselves and what we were told is accurate, the food when we went there was terrible. My partner had fish of the day and it was like rubber and tasted bland. My steak sandwich was a little better but overpriced for what we got. Today we went to Due South for a quiet drink only to be offended by a staff member following us to our outside table carrying a bottle of water and glasses and saying with a grin on her face "just in case you need it". i thought this was a nice gesture until I looked around at other tables and they did not have a bottle or glasses on theirs. As walking away she turned to look at our table with another grin. This was our first drink for the day but we were made to feel like we had been drinking all day and not wanted in their establishment. We are always a happy friendly couple when out and I feel that we were judged and targeted as being drunk already. I spoke with a staff member and mentioned how we felt only to be told that the staff are new. and only started yesterday. There was no real intent to deal with the problem. This was rubbish. We live in Albany and we will not be returning to this pub unless they pick up their attitude and if the staff start smiling once in a while without judging us for...
Read moreWanted to order mussel and pizza however, we were told that mussel are not available, so we decided to order a pizza and a steak instead.
We weren’t informed that the steak would take 30 minutes to prepare. We checked our apple pay which showed we paid at 5:35pm, and the food only arrived at 6:05pm — a 30-minute wait.
What made things more frustrating was when the manager came out to “clarify” that our order was only received at 5:48pm, and the food came 15 minutes after that. We were confused, as our Apple Pay clearly showed payment at 5:35pm. When we questioned this, we were told the kitchen uses a different system. That explanation didn’t quite make sense to us — if there’s a system delay, doesn’t that still mean we waited a significant amount of time?
Eventually, we were told that steak normally takes 30 minutes to cook for medium. That’s understandable, but it would have helped a lot if this was communicated to us from the start. It didn’t feel good paying nearly $90 for two mains and a drink, while also feeling frustrated and hangry.
To be fair, the restaurant was fairly busy, and we were seated outside, which made it harder to get the staff’s attention. But overall, we just wished the communication was better — especially around waiting times — to manage expectations and improve the overall...
Read moreGave this restaurant another go today (Monday, 7th October), after a so-so experience a few years ago. This time with friends from Melbourne. We arrived for a late lunch at 1:30pm. A sign greeted us at the order counter - "No pizza. No rump. No mussels." My friends ordered chicken schnitzel, as well as my husband. Just as I paid for our meal, we were notified our friends got the last 2 chicken schnitzel. So, add another item on that NO list. I ordered the beef noodle salad. The beef was supposed to be medium rare. Well, it was the rarest medium rare I've ever seen. I just couldn't eat the meat. Luckily, the noodle salad was delicious. My son ordered the fried chicken off the specials menu. For $20 he got about 15 small pieces of chicken. No chips included. Our friends schnitzel came out and I couldn't believe how tiny it was. About the size of a fist. I was disappointed for them. My husbands steak sandwich (replacement for no schnitzel) was the biggest dish ordered. Yet his steak was luke warm and the cheese wasn't even melted. I have a feeling a lot of the food is precooked and just kept warm as our meals came out in less than 5 minutes. As a local, I certainly will not be recommending this...
