Miss Maud Belmont – Afternoon Tea Disappointment

Today, I visited Miss Maud Belmont for afternoon tea. The cost is approximately $15 per person. The environment was acceptable—not particularly impressive, but not unpleasant either.

However, the level of service was disappointing. At around 3:40 PM, I observed a group of customers who sat down for only five minutes before leaving. The reason? The coffee machine had already stopped operating, despite the store not closing until 4:00 PM. More concerning was that the staff, who clearly saw them enter, did not inform them of this until they tried to order.

As for my own experience, it was equally underwhelming. I ordered three items: a chicken pie, a curried egg sandwich, and one dessert, along with coffees. Unfortunately, two out of the three food items were incorrect. I was mistakenly served a lamb pie—even though I do not eat red meat. I only realised this after taking two bites. This could have been extremely dangerous had I had a food allergy.

Similarly, the curried egg sandwich was substituted with a tuna sandwich—again, without informing us. This is a serious issue, as allergies to seafood can be life-threatening. Fortunately, neither of us has allergies, but this kind of mistake is unacceptable.

In my view, this reflects very poor management. I do not blame the individual staff members, but I do hold the management responsible for the lack of training and quality control. Such carelessness and unprofessional service cannot be overlooked or excused.

Based on this experience, I cannot give more...

Environment: plenty of carparks. Located in Belmont Forum. Classic Swedish Maud decoration. Drawing materials for kids is available --- 7/10 Service: Basically, find a table yourself. Laminated menu placed on the table. Then queue up to order and pay at the front desk. Normal waiting time for food. Not every table has sugar and pepper. Staff focused on finishing their jobs as fast as possible. --- 6.5/10 Food: some food wasn't available this visit. The presentation is almost same as photos on the menu, but not very tidy. Normal portion. Price was acceptable but can't be good value. Ham & Cheese Omelet , $ 19.95: served with garden salad and a small Ciabatta toast (with melting butter). Raspberry Vinegarette was nice. Omelet was really soft. Good portion of fillings --- 7.3/10 Crab Sammige Open face Sandwich. $18.75: served with my choice of salad. It's beetroot salad. That's sour than green salad, but ok for me. The small and thin Swedish white bread on the bottom was very slightly buttered toasted. Relatively, Good amount of seafood in mayo. Really tasted Crab and Prawn on mayo. --- 7/10 Hot Chocolate with 2 Marshallows, $ 6.1 mug: it said mug. Actually, it is a cone shaped cup. A lot of cold foam on the top. So, it's not much hot chocolate indeed. Taste was ok, but not rich in texture. They have not enough mugs. They needed the mug after we finished. ---...

Monday, 10 February 2020 @ 11:10. They have a takeaway special - bacon and egg sandwich with a regular coffee. Before I paid, I asked the lady if I could sit down and eat it in the seating area (that was legit 3/4 EMPTY). All I wanted was a table to sit at so I could comfortably eat THEIR food. She said no, because there are different prices that apply to the seating area for services such as, having your food come on a plate. I clarified by noting, I wouldn't have a plate - I would just be happy to have my take-away packaging (that I offered to take with me when I go!). she still said no, and said that I can't sit down. Well, right in that moment, I realised why I had always bypassed Miss Mauds (deliberately chosing to eat elsewhere). I said "no worries" and I walked right over to Soul Origin. They have a more pricey deal, but I would prefer to pay the extra money and give them my business, because, they clearly care more about customer service then this stuck up place does. Think about it, you just lost current and future business because you arrogantly refused to let one of your own paying customers sit down to eat your own food! Heck, I was even contemplating getting a cake slice to have with my coffee after eating my sandwich! Idiotic, just...
