This review is a few days late, as the incident that disappointed me occurred on Saturday 6th January (2024) & I’m writing as a ‘once’ regular patron of the Shingle Inn. A friend & I had dropped in for a piece of Christmas cake & a drink. Neither of us was happy with what we received or the shoddy customer service although, I must say the young man who took our order (at the counter) was very pleasant & helpful, but that’s where things stopped. My friend had a latte & I had a hot chocolate, & can I say it was, the smallest hot chocolate I’ve ever seen? A hot chocolate generally, is always served in a mug, instead, I got one in the tiniest cup & saucer – a few mouthfuls at best. And the Christmas cake…absolutely rock hard, possibly they’d kept it from 2022, but it was horrendous. When you tapped it with a fork it made a dull thudding sound. After discussing it, my friend & I decided to mention it to the staff, & we shouldn’t have wasted our time – I explained, that the cake needed to be either wrapped in clingfilm or baking paper when on display to keep it fresh, & I even demonstrated how hard it was to cut – the young girl, just looked at me with a blank look on her face. No apology! No offer of something else, or even a refund. She just stood there. The money’s not the issue because it was only $12.90 (for mine) but even so, for a diddy drink & a piece of cake, that neither of us ate – we felt ripped off! My friend & I both decided; we won’t be visiting...
Read moreI visited this place today with my friends — it was my second time here, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience.
To start with, the staff member who took our order lacked basic customer service skills. There was no warmth or professionalism in how we were treated.
We ordered two smashed avocado dishes, which, according to the menu, were supposed to be served with eggs. However, the meals arrived without any eggs. When I pointed this out, the eggs were eventually brought out — but they were undercooked and not appetizing. It felt careless and disrespectful, especially considering the price.
We also ordered a pancake. The first one was burnt, so we asked for a replacement. The second one arrived undercooked — almost raw. It was inedible. My friends, who were guests of mine, ended up not eating anything, and I felt embarrassed for bringing them here.
Despite spending nearly $100, the food and service were well below standard. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else to actually enjoy a proper meal.
To the management: Please take these issues seriously. Mistakes can happen, but consistent carelessness and lack of customer care are unacceptable. It's not just about food — it's about respect for your customers and the value of their...
Read moreWell, I had been waiting patiently for the Joondalup café to open and finally it did. I grew up in Brisbane in the 50/60's and remembered being taken to dinner at the original, very special, right down to the silver sugar bowl which was turned a particular way when your order had been taken so you weren't pestered by other waiter staff asking for an order which you had given. When I married my husband and I went there as well. Years later and now living in Perth, we were anticipating the first visit to this café. Unfortunately, the only table free was full of dirty dishes. We decided we would ask if someone could clear and wash the table when we put our order in, which cost $50+ for two sandwiches, one cake and two cups of coffee which was excessive we thought. We waited and waited looking a the dirty dishes, saw two wait staff lingering around the counter chatting together waiting for the next cup of coffee to serve, even the manager handing out food because he couldn't be the waiter's attention. 15 minutes went by and nothing..... we gave up and got our money back. Never again will be visit The Shingle...
