I was told that the chashu at this ramen place was melt-in-the-mouth. It was exactly that. For me there are four things that make great ramen; the taste and texture of the noodle, the chashu, the hard-boiled egg, and the broth. The noodle should be al dente like good pasta. It should be tasty yet neutral enough not to be overpowering. Chashu must break up easily with chopsticks with the right ratio of lean to fat. The yolk is more orange than Trump's tan. More like the sun at sunset. The white needs to be firm but yielding. And the stock. There are many variations possible here. Some like it thick and strong, others clear and delicate but full of flavour. This one is light but with a strong and tasty flavour. Think of a good Ramen as a party in your mouth. Ramen Eki ticks all the boxes and the prices are good too. Located with the Coventry Markets, there is usually plenty of parking. But go on weekends at your peril! There is disabled access and credit cards...
Read moreLet me start by saying we're not foodies or experts at analysing Japanese food but we're a family of four with two young kids and we do love ramen. We've tried all the highly rated ramen spots in Perth multiple times each and I'd have to say that the feeling of satisfaction after leaving Ramen Eki probably tops them all. When I say satisfaction, it's a combination of taste, value for money AND how you feel after the meal. The prices were very reasonable and our young children (2 and 6) LOVED their food. As parents we've found most ramen places have broth that is too salty. We want delicious flavour but we're always trying to reduce the salt intake of our kids. You can always add seasoning but you can never take it out. We had both the Tonkotsu and Shoyu Ramen and loved them. The Karrage chicken was delicious too. We're always at Coventry Village and you can count on us visiting...
Read moreFirst time at this stall despite coming frequently to coventry village for groceries. We would usually drive to freo (50 mins) when we crave for ramen. We decided to try this place out since it is only 20 mins drive.
A homey feel to this restaurant, unpretentious and humble setting. The staff is friendly and warm. The food is awesome. We ordered the karrage chicken ramen with tonkotsu base ($13.50) added a slice of char siew ($2) ans bamboo shoots ($1.50) and a black garlic char siew ramen with tonkotsu base ($14.90). They were amazing! Char siew literally melts in your mouth, the egg was perfectly cooked, and the karrage chicken with their special mayo sauce was outstanding. Well done and keep this standard up.
I highly recommend giving this place a try as the restaurant is at a corner which is easily missed as compared to Big mama or Duck...
