The Steelers Club I want to give a big wrap to the Steelers Club. I was impressed with how polite all the staff were that we engaged with on Friday the 1st June 2018. Everyone we spoke with was helpful, knowledgable regarding the area and extremely welcoming. We attended and for dinner and we were not disappointed. The meals were a good size for the price, well cooked, tasty and came out in timely manner. It was a comfortable well designed and decorated venue with light easy going ambience. A give place to sit and eat and enjoy a few beers and/or a wine. I will certainly eat here again at the Steelers Club when we next visit Wollongong.

Stopped in at the Steelers Club for dinner while on a solo business trip and was pleasantly surprised by the specials board — great value for members, but still with decent deals for non-members like myself. I ordered garlic bread and the T-bone steak, and the whole meal came to under $35. The steak was huge, cooked well, and absolutely delicious. If I’d been a member, it would have only cost $18 on their Wednesday T-bone night — incredible value. Service was quick, and overall it was a very satisfying meal. If I were local, I’d definitely be back regularly.

Not the same Il Lago we love! Went to Il Lago Bistro in Wollongong thinking it was like the amazing one in Shellharbour we’ve been to so many times. Big mistake! T-bone was burned on the outside, raw inside. The pumpkin? White, wrinkled, and looked like it had been sitting there since last century—I wouldn’t touch it, not even with a chopstick. Truly suspicious! Ordered the fish & chips for my baby, she wouldn’t even go near it. Lasagna was dry and sad. Super disappointing. Definitely not coming back! Shellharbour, please send a rescue mission!

I was at the Steelers recently for a function upstairs, but were ordering food from the downstairs restaurant. The function was great, drag queens trivia hosts were brilliant, but the service was shocking. After settling into the function for about half an hour, we (2 of us) went downstairs to order food at about 7:30pm. We were told that they were experiencing a high volume of orders so we were asked to come back in 15 mins. The venue was very busy and our added upstairs function was also using the downstairs restaurant so I completely understood. We went back upstairs until 8pm and came back down, we were told again to come back in 15 and when we said we’d been told this half an hour ago the staff got rude and acted like we were asking the world. We just wanted some dinner. We went back upstairs and came down a third time at 8:30pm and were told the kitchen had closed for the night! If we didn’t stand our ground a little by saying we had been told multiple times to come back later, the staff would’ve happily dismissed us. They did not care at all. After a bit of a conversation with someone who seemed like a manager we were told we could order a bowl of chips or a pizza only, neither of these is what we originally wanted to order - a chicken schnitzel is all I was going to order initially. Nonetheless we ordered a pizza each. After being annoyed about how we were treated like we didn’t matter and like we were being difficult, after about 15 minutes of having our pizza, the waitress wanted to take our plates. We were at a function, having a good time with trivia and games, I said I wasn’t quite done yet and she said that she would do a lap around the rest of the room and then when she came back I had to be done. This is atrocious! They surely had noticed we just got our food, surely my one plate wasn’t holding up the entire club. The waitress came back a second time after 5-10 mins and stood next to me, I had to put my remainder 2 pizza slices on a napkin so she could have my plate. This is not what I want when I go out for a good night. I’m never one to complain usually, but this was just appalling service. It completely ruined the whole night, and I know you guys are usually a popular place, but neither me or my friends/family will be...

I dropped into this club recently while travelling to feed a family of four. Ordered a steak well done, it was delivered to me medium at best. I was told that this is how the Chef cooks a steak well done. My specific request was handled with pretentiousness and complete contempt. The gravy served beside the steak was tasted by everyone at the table and was unidentifiable and completely inedible. All the chips served with our meals tasted like fish. Chef said this is impossible, despite everyone tasting fish. We also ordered 2 schnitzel dishes that were not very nice and made with very cheap ingredients. All the adult meals were delivered and then a few minutes later the sides (salads and chips) were brought out. So we had to sit for that time waiting for the second half of our meals before we could begin to eat. At no stage, did anyone attend our table to ask us how our meals were. When I complained about the food the caterer met every comment I made with refusal to acknowledge anything was wrong with our meals. 4 meals (including 1 child’s meal) cost us $96. I was told because their menu is a-la-carte and delivered to our table, they charge a premium price as opposed to other clubs (that have a menu and deliver your food to your table). Please note that the club management will not get involved as the food section is operated by the Art Craft catering company. I will never visit...

I’m not generally a negative reviewer, so 3 stars is pretty low for me.

The club: Great staff, friendly and accommodating Gambling: old school but available. Drinks: reasonable prices and selection Entertainment: pretty good and successful at the raffle! The food: generally ok, has improved a little recently.

So why 3 stars?? Had dinner and a few issues:

Our special steak night steak was::

Overdone - not a big deal I guess, it was on special after all. A bit slow coming out: that’s ok, they were busy.. Had a foreign plastic object in the mash: a bit of a problem, but hey, let’s talk to the chef quietly about this. The Chefs comment on the issue: No idea, because the gutless wonder sent 2 junior staff out to “deal” with it!

These poor staff were told to tell us “he stepped out,”.. In reality this loser couldn’t back his business up by owning the issue. We generally never complain nor ask for anything, but on the rare occasion we have an issue, we provide feedback, not asking for a refund!

Obviously this has pissed me off, otherwise I wouldn’t bother writing a composition, but this loser needs to own his restaurant’s mistakes personally, not palm it off on poor staff, that don’t cook or deserve to be grilled on poor efforts by the cooks..

Shame on you chef, or should I say shame on you cook!! A real...
