Best Western City Sands — Hotel in Wollongong City Council

No lift working and we’re on level 2. The lady at reception said they’d advised me. Nothing in my messages so asked what do we do? She said you’ll have to take the stairs and we’ll help with your luggage if you need it or try and book us in at another venue which we didn’t want to do. We got our luggage, with no help, so we trudged up the first flight, via the restaurant, via the fire escape and into the room. Finally!

After catching our breath, the room was nice and spacious, view spectacular, massive air conditioning unit and the smallest ever tv for a room that size it was laughable. Anyway, heading out to the balcony to check out the amazing view only to find or not find any outdoor furniture! For $300 a night you’d think the set up would be better appointed.

The bathroom was ok, roomy, but… the shower filthy (see pic).

On a positive the staff in the restaurant/bistro were great. The food and drink excellent too so well worth a feed if you’re passing by. Having said that, if you plan on staying, it’s not fully equipped to the standard it should be so consider that.

Don’t think I’ll be back. To Wollongong yes, just not at this establishment.

I almost forgot, I asked the lady at reception if due to the inconvenience I could get a round of golf in the following day (a Sunday) and she said go and see the pro shop. Apparently a Michael is the person to talk to who is also apparently the only person on the planet who can authorise anything. Anyway, I go to the pro shop and ask if I can book in a round of golf and I got a “no chance”. I’m now standing on the furniture -less balcony at 10am to see groups of 2 teeing off! This was good overall. Good location. We didn't get a water view room but the view over the city/mountains was still nice. Parking was fine, the lift was fast, reception pleasant and prompt.

My only points of improvement are: It would be good if there was a freezer as well as the fridge - because the freezer compartment of the fridge doesn't really work effectively. It would be good if there was a TV in the bedroom - I don't normally like to watch TV in the bedroom but if you had a kid on the sofa or a cot it means you can put them to sleep in the living room and watch tv still in the bedroom without waking them up. There's also a perfect place on top of the dresser in the bedroom for this. Our main entrance door had an issue which required you to slam the door in order for it to lock fully. I hope the hotel promptly fixes this up for security reasons. We had a plate with an obvious crack before we got there. This probably should have been picked up because once again a bit of a safety issue. It was advertised that there was cable TV, but I couldn't see strong evidence of this. It was a smart TV, but a smart TV is only smart if you have a subscription to various services like Prime,...

We stayed here for 1 night & from the moment we checked in until we left, we have never experienced such poor service. Our view of the ocean was obstructed with a pile of building material, there were no outdoor table & chairs on the balcony, the restaurant closed at 2030hrs and when we asked at reception why it was closed so early on a Saturday night, when they were a registered club, we were told we should have read the information book in our room! So we made sure we read the information book when we returned to our room, which stated that breakfast was until 1130 on Sunday's. We went down for brreakfast right on 1100, and they proceeded to inform us that they only served breakfast until 1100. I suggested the book in the room needed to be updated then as it still said 1130 and it was very misleading! They did agree to serve us breakfast, but the overall unhelpfulness of the staff will prevent us from staying here again & we will not be recommending it to...
