My friend starting choking on a sharp bone from his meal (a pork curry that should NOT have had any bones in it) and had to be taken to hospital by emergency services after not being able to breathe.
While the waitstaff were very nice and checked in on our group and the wellbeing of our friend, the owner was incredibly rude and dismissive of the entire situation, insisting multiple times it was a peanut or a cinnamon stick (even going so far as to pull out multiple cinnamon sticks to show us what they looked like) despite being informed that my friend was choking on a bone (which was later confirmed via hospital X-Ray). We mentioned that his meal shouldn't have had a bone in it, and mistakes happen, but we requested that they be more careful in the future so this doesn't happen again. He didn't seem at all concerned, even when our friend was taken away via ambulance, and was a bit exasperated when we insisted on having the meals and drinks of my friend & his partner (who went with him to the hospital) comped by the restaurant. The rest of our party still had to pay, despite none of us eating anything as this happened less than ten minutes after receiving our food. When we called the restaurant later on to inform him our friend alright and that it was in fact a large bone lodged in his throat, he simply said "okay" and hung up on us.
Another small detail I normally wouldn't bother mentioning include the fact that despite booking well in advance and requesting multiple times for a table reservation (and even calling day-of to confirm) we were seated on the floor.
While the waitstaff was lovely and the service was incredibly quick at getting our food out to us, this experience was ruined by the owner's dismissive and exasperated nature both during and after the medial emergency he witnessed. A medical emergency that, once again, should not have happened, as that meal should not have had any bones in it and yet there was quite a large one there nonetheless.
Due to this, I would also be hesitant to believe that the kitchen could navigate any allergies or dietary restrictions without significant risk of cross-contamination.
This was my first time at this restaurant, although several members of our party had been there multiple times and enjoyed their food and service. However, none of us will be...
Read moreRude owner, don't go if you have any allergies.
On 15th July Saturday, my wife and I called Jasmine Rice to enquire about the ingredients in the Pad Thai. We explained my wife is allergic to dairy egg and soy and she is breastfeeding my 9month old daughter who is also allergic (whatever my wife eats is transferred through the breast milk). Pad thai had several ingredients we were concerned about and asked if it could be made allergy friendly to which they said yes. In the past, they have called us back after putting through an order and needed clarification but this time they did not. Other business have often told us they are not comfortable as they cannot be 100% certain however Jasmine rice did not. We put through the order with a 30min wait time. We picked up the order after 1hr 15min due to staffing issue. Upon eating the food we discovered Tofu was in the Pad Thai which my wife had eaten. I called the store and spoke to the manager. He acknowledged our call about the allergies and went on to say they removed all allergens. I then asked about Tofu. He told me Tofu was not made from any of those, it was made from a bean. I informed him the bean was soya bean, i.e soy. He then went on to accuse me on not informing him and that soy means soy sauce. I explained to him that soy comes in a variety of different forms and if he was confused, he should have asked, especially for someone in the food business. He then made a comment, which sounds a bit racist to me, that I should have known that his cooks cannot speak very good english and can be easily confused with allergy information. He said he did not want to make this food again which I informed him was a little late. He was not apologetic for the fact that my daughter will now receive the allergen and be sick for 2 weeks. He did not offer a refund, only a 50% discount however I said I would not be coming back. I understand people make mistakes but he was not empathetic to the outcome and only defensive. Like other business, if they are worried about allergies, they should raise the concern prior to making the food,...
Read moreJasmin Rice Thai Restaurant in Wollongong is an absolute gem that simply shines in terms of customer service and culinary excellence. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a small but dedicated team, ensuring that every patron was attended to promptly. The attention to detail was so impeccable that, at times, it felt almost humorous! The staff constantly checked in on us, making sure our experience was top-notch without ever feeling intrusive. Their dedication to customer satisfaction truly sets them apart.
Now, let's talk about the food. We indulged in a variety of dishes, each more delicious than the last. The special spring rolls were a delightful start, setting the tone for the culinary journey ahead. My wife surprised me with the vegetarian peanut chicken dish, which was nothing short of spectacular. The spicy vegetable combo we tried was a delightful blend of flavors, igniting our taste buds in the best possible way. Personally, I savored the green curry, bursting with authentic Thai flavors, while my wife bravely tackled the Red curry at its highest spice level—a challenge she couldn't resist. The warning about level 10 spice did not disappoint—it was so good that we found ourselves returning for more not once, not twice, but three evenings in a row.
The overall experience at Jasmin Rice transcended mere dining and veered into the realm of a memorable date night. The atmosphere is enchanting, with beautiful artwork adorning the walls, creating an authentic and cozy ambiance. We even had the unique experience of sitting on the floor with crossed legs, adding an extra touch of charm to the evening. The staff's attention to detail extends to every aspect of the restaurant, ensuring a holistic and delightful dining experience. In conclusion, Jasmin Rice Thai Restaurant is, without a doubt, one of the best dining establishments I've visited in the country, and I will eagerly go out of my way to savor another meal there. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an exceptional...
