Really wanted to like this place but....I did not have a reservation. I got to the restaurant at 6:20, 20 mins after they opened. As mentioned, I did not have a reservation. I was told they had no availability for the rest of the night but there were only two other people in restaurant and all four bar seats were open. I had to ask if I could sit at the bar as it was not offered. They turned down two couples that came in and asked for a table without a reservation and did not offer the bar.
There was no Bartender (perhaps why they did not offer to sit at the bar) - waiters/waitresses made their own drinks. There was no service what so ever sitting at bar as staff is tending to their tables.
On to the food. Tuna tartar was very good and a generous proportion. Hot Lucy roll was good - but hot, not as in spicy as in temperature. It was fried. Still, it was tasty. No reason not to think other offerings would be as equally good based on other reviews.
My guess is that the table experience much better than the bar experience - make a reservation. When I left 1:40 mins later, still no others at the bar and restaurant...
Read moreWe find in general, quite tricky to find good sushi/asia throughout Austria but here at Kai is what comes after outstanding food! Our dinner started with a warm refreshing towel. The wide-ranging menu was presented in German, Japanease and English; starters, sushi, kaiseki, soup, salad, inside/outside rolls, sashimi, main courses, noodles and dessert. Really something for everyone. Prices were on the high side but the quality of food represented this well. At this point, I would like to add that service was carried out by students who weren’t very engaging or proactive but they did the job just fine. The place was packed on a Friday night. Reservations are highly recommended but food can be taken out. The sashimi was the best we have eaten in Europe. The tempura soup was just packed full of flavour. The rice in the sushi was just melt in your mouth and fish used was super fresh. The tuna. Oh. My. Word! To finish, highly recommended, we cannot wait to be back. Tips: - reservations are a must, sashimi with the caviar is truly...
Read moreWhat a nice surprise. Good Sushi. We ordered normal miso soup and fish miso soup. I would recommend the fish miso. There was so many fish in it so it was almost a main dish rather than a starter. Good deal. We ordered Edamame as another starter. Well nothing was special about it. Kids love it. Healthy choice. Then we ordered sushi plate which was decent. We also had udon and chicken grill with rice. Udon had no meat in it (as it was mentioned in the menu) but still it was tasty. I am not so sure if it was vegan/vegetarian but for sure it is a good choice. Chicken grill was also decent. I can not complain. I liked the vegetables served next to it. As desert we had matcha ice cream. Kids didn’t like the matcha taste which is no surprise. Service was very friendly and the atmosphere was close to the restaurants in Japan. We enjoyed a lot from this experience. PS: They have Yamazaki 12 on the bar shelf but they don’t sell it. Even though I insisted with the chef, couldn’t manage...
