Machete - Burrito Kartell — Restaurant in Innsbruck

Sadly didn’t live up to the reviews. We arrived at 6.30pm on a weekday and the restaurant was packed, awkwardly waited in a doorway for a good 10-15mins behind 1 other person, none of the waitstaff spoke to us. It was so disorganised there was no sign to say please wait here. I then ended up going to the bar to ask how dining in works. It was taking too long for a table, as most people seemed to be sitting having drinks (I will say the vibe of the place was cool). This place is more of a bar where you can get average burritos.

We got sick of waiting and ended up ordering takeaway on the form you fill in. I went to pay and the waiter behind the bar asked if I wanted to tip, absolutely not and for takeaway!

Waited about 15mins for our burritos and they were average tasting, with not enough flavour. What also bothers me is you pay more for extras like cilantro and there were a few tiny bits in there, I couldn’t taste it or the sauce I paid extra for. They also wrap your order paper around the burrito, touching your food which is gross, god only knows how many people’s hands have been on that order. Maybe we just came on a busy night and got served...

Under staffed!!!

Don’t come after 6pm. Spent two hours at the place for almost all our orders to be wrong (4/6) The staff wouldn’t wait for us to finish ordering and would walk away before everyone could order drinks. The food did come quickly after ordering but then we sat and waited for it to be corrected, I myself gave up because the waiter left after hearing only one person at our table, this repeated twice and I wanted to eat before it got cold. We then waited for the bill for an additional 30minutes after asking two different waiters for the bill. In the end we got up to pay and skipped the long line of people waiting to place take away orders. The staff were friendly but made the entire experience extremely uncomfortable and honestly the food was barely worth the price. Very friendly staff.

The wait for the food to be prepared was surprisingly long at just over 30 min so don't go here if you are in a hurry. The friendly staff warned us about the long wait before we ordered so we did not mind the wait since we knew in advance that we would have to wait and were prepared. Many of the others seemed to go here for drinks and as a social meeting place in which case a 30 min wait is not a problem and perhaps even a positive thing.

Having spent a lot of time in southern california I may be extra picky when it comed to mexican food. I would rate the burrito as slightly below average, which is still a very tasty meal so do not interpret that too negatively.

Overall, if you are visiting innsbruck for an extended stay I would say that Machete Burrito Kartell is well worth one visit but probably not more if you are just going for the burrito. If you live in Innsbruck it is probably a great place however to grab a few drinks and a good burrito...
