Brandauer’s Schlossbräu (9 pm April 5th 2014). (1130 Wien).
Summary: Positives: Food, location, ambiance. Negatives: service could have been better.
Decor/Ambiance/Service. Positives: Attractive restaurant built in what appears to have been an old theatre (decore a little shabby). The room itself is large and open with 2 characteristic ‘beer bottle trees’ and a central bar showing live sports (relatively unobtrusively). Ambiance was relaxed, the music although there, was so unobtrusive you may not notice it. Staff reasonably dressed. There’s a courtyard with ample tables/seating and attractive lighting for the warmer weather.
Negatives: Service was neutral at best. My order of a 2nd beer was all but forgotten and when it was finally delivered, the glass contained a lot less beer (pictured before I’d sampled it) than the first I had ordered. Might be worth buying bottled beer if you prefer a consistent volume.
Food: ‘The first time we went I ordered the Zander, which came with boiled potatoes, brocolli and salad. The fish and veg was perfectly cooked and at around 14 euro’s it was good value. My partner ordered pork ribs, which were excellent. Ribs were served on a wooden platter on a bed of good roast potatoes with a small sauerkraut and raw onion side salad and 3 small pots of sauces (some kind of piquant tomato, a mild horseraddish and a yoghurt type sauce). I didn’t particularly rate the sauces. Having forgotten to photograph the food the first time round, we went a 2nd time, which was no sacrifice at all as we enjoyed it so much. We ordered one platter of ribs between us which was more than enough. Unfortunately, I was so keen to eat it that I forgot to photograph it until we’d finished half of it. So the photograph shown does not do justice to the dish we were served.
Gratuity: Gratuity was optional. We declined to pay as the service was the only disapointing aspect of our evening and it was neutral rather...
Read moreWent there with a group of friends and except for 2-3 potato salads, the food was good. unfortunately there were quite a lot of mishaps, mainly due to the waiter Bence. First problem was, that the waiter obviously did not listen carefully to the orders (many of our orders were wrong and he even tried to convince one of my friends to take one of the food that wasn't even ordered), I also asked him from the very beginning to separate the first drinks as I wanted to pay for the first round, but it then turned out that he didn't even listen and just said ok, which made the whole payment a mess. We also got 2 potato salads which were obviously spoiled, but even after telling him, we didn't want an extra salad, he still brought us two. (once again, obviously not listening to what was said) During the payment,he then proceeded telling me about how "the tip is for my wife, thank you." and how the prices did not include service charge, implying that he should get a tip, which I personally found rude as the service was really bad, and even though I planned on giving him a tip, it was something that I did not appreciate. He also charged my friend more which he "excused" by saying that the price of the food, again, does not include any service charges. Once again, you cannot or should not be expecting a tip after you've repeatedly brought the wrong order and spoiled food, and just adding it by yourself is just not acceptable. Also telling me that he didn't get a lot of tip (once again, I guess implying, that I should not complain), is something that I personally don't think should be told to a guest. Last but not least, after I asked for the invoice, the waiter said, that it will at least take 30minutes and that he had too much to do, so in the end, we also did not get any Invoice. Unfortunately, we left the restaurant very disappointed and I hope that it was just that 1 waiter, but it is advisable to doublecheck the bill...

Me and my friend were eating quite comfortably and all of a sudden the Innkeepers from the pub comes and tells us at 23 h - “you have to leave at 23 h”- I just smoked my cigarette and I said with a normal tone - yes, I'd be happy to finish my cigarette and we will leave (since it's typical in Austria that gardens close earlier, I wasn't surprised) what really bothered me was the tone with which this slim blonde woman talked to me and my friend als when we were thieves.
I continue to smoke and seated quality and actually wanted to leave... shortly afterwards (2 minutes later) a stronger woman came up to us and told us to get out. But her tone - unsuitable to the point- no one can talk to each other like that - what is left for well educated guests ????
I told the woman that her tone was not suitable, but she answered: “yes, you know it's 11 pm and you have to get out!”.
We were not informed by any waiter that there was a garden closing time and it was not described anywhere! From where should we know?
With that rude staff , impudent and depicted just simple politeness nothing else would be demanded... when man informed us with normal tone at 22:30h or 22:45h - “hey at 23 h is closing time the garden, so please make sure to be ready with your drinks” - yes okay no problem..but I am not a criminal to be treated and yelled at as one‼️ Especially not on my costs‼️ Their inappropriate tone discriminated me and gave a very bad feeling‼️ I will never go there again‼️
P.S. Und ja, ich spreche auch Deutsch - ich wollte diese Bewertung an mehrsprachige...
