I post this review with somewhat of a heavy heart as I want people to know that this bar is genuinely a nice pub with great atmosphere - great sport and great drink.
Unfortunately, I had somewhat of a poor experience on 18.07.25 when my partner and I were given out to by a member of staff.
To set the scene, we ordered two burgers and chips and after 20 minutes or so two burgers arrived. We said to the waitress we also ordered chips. No problem she said, it seems someone hasn’t put it through but she will sort it. Okay great - we were really hungry at this stage so we began to eat. About 3 minutes later, the waitress who served us told us we were eating the wrong burgers and were actually eating another tables order.
“Guys. You really should have told me this wasn’t your order.” - she said to us, scolding us like children. She seemed incredibly upset at us. As if we were to know? She stood there, scowling at us and rolled her eyes when we reminded her that she served the table, we ordered burgers and we received burgers. We even reminded her we were missing chips, which should have set off alarm bells that she was in fact serving the wrong table.
She didn’t let it go anyway, and told us that it was our fault for eating burgers served to us after ordering burgers. My partner had recently come from a long stint working in an Irish bar and couldn’t fathom speaking to a customer this way. We were quite shocked and decided to leave after our food - we were planning on staying longer but wanted out at that stage. I’m honestly struggling to put into words how poorly she spoke to us without sounding cartoonish.
A lighter haired waitress then served us our food. She was lovely - and apologised and said things happen and it wasn’t that big a deal. She somewhat made up for how poorly the dark-haired waitress treated us. We never got her name but we liked her, and she was good at her job. Periodically the dark haired waitress showed up. She took my partners plate before mine instead of waiting for us both to finish / tried serving us a portion ketchup around 10 mins after we started eating etc, she was all over the place in terms of attitude and service. We really were disappointed and felt somewhat embarrassed.
After we finished eating, a friendly younger man Matt came over and we explained the situation again. Matt is a good guy, and a good barman too - he explained that she is going through ‘a really tough time’ and that he was really sorry. We stayed and had 2 more drinks before leaving. Give Matt a raise. At no point did the waitress come and apologise to us. I’m empathetic to someone going through a tough time, but I do expect to not be berated in an establishment for someone else’s mistake.
At the end of the day it isn’t a massive deal, but as a new Irish couple recently moved to Vienna we were really disappointed. I’m not the type to write reviews, however, I feel for other people visiting, Irish or otherwise, you should be aware of how they possibly might treat you.
I’ll 100% be considering other Irish pubs in the city going forward as I don’t want to roll the dice on how I’m treated with...
Read moreI am rather disappointed and sad to report that I've probably had the most uncomfortable and disrespectful experiences during my 7 years in Vienna due to the bouncer and guard's behavior towards me and my friends. After being told that we were not allowed to bring our water bottles and protein bars inside and could go inside once we disposed of them, (which is completely understandable at any eating establishment), we were rejected for no reason in particular despite disposing of the water and snacks. The bouncer also searched my bag and told me to take out all my feminine products in front of everyone so that he could take a thorough look, which was not a comfortable experience on my end. A few non-POC were allowed to enter after we were rejected, and this was just an unfair experience from my end (as a woman and as a POC), as I did what the bouncer had told us to do despite not being provided a sufficient reason for not being allowed inside. A few female bystanders were defending my group of friends, which I very much appreciate and am grateful for, as the other groups were making a joke out of this experience. As a person who has frequently visited Charlie P's in the past due to its international atmosphere, it is with a heavy heart that I must admit that another establishment has disappointed my experience going out due to racism...
Read moreI very much like this Pub. But I can only give 3 out of 5 stars, because the wine tastes very cheap and the menue is very small. The burgers and beer look very good, haven't tried yet. I did try the Ceasars Salad and it tasted very boring and the sauce just tasted like mayonnaise. Lots of mayonnaise. I told the waiter that the recipe from the sauce needs to be changed or I can't order it again. The waiter was really friendly and offered me a chocolate brownie on the house, was very delicious! The atmosphere is awesome. Lots of students and there is a small club in the basement.
