Chilai — Restaurant in Vienna

Try to find a breakfast restaurant on a Sunday morning in Vienna, and most places will be closed. But when even the supermarkets are darkened, not only was Chilai open from 8am as advertised, it turns out to be the place we would have stopped if we'd had the whole of Vienna to choose from. Our server Victoria was very gracious and prompt. She greeted me with a smile when I walked in at one minute past 8am. Very good coffees were on our table almost as soon as we'd asked for them, and we both enjoyed a supurb 'large Vienese' breakfast. The menu was in German but Victoria pointed out the QR code that took me to a very clear and accurate menu on my phone. There were fresh croissants, butter, jam, cheese, ham, a plain roll cut for making a sandwich if you wish, and an excellent soft-boiled egg. My other half doesn't eat eggs, so Victoria made a substitution with no trouble at all, and we both commented on the wonderful fresh orange juice. Victoria took the time to speak in perfect English, asking where we were from and talking about differences in accents across the countries that speak German and English. As we departed I saw other set 'large American' breakfasts coming out -- they looked fabulous! A full English breakfast is also on the menu and fresh avocado on toast. The decor is tasteful, the lavatories spotless. There are windows everywhere for great people watching at the entrance to Rennweg station. We each had two cappucinos, fresh orange juice and a large Vienna breakfast. That came to €47 which is fair for Vienna and cheaper than the buffet at the Savoyen Hotel where we are staying about 200...

We had a wonderful time dining here – the location is very walkable from our hotel, and the vibe was cool, relaxed, and welcoming. The menu was just right – not overwhelming, but with enough variety to satisfy different tastes. Prices were reasonable, and the portion sizes were more than generous. To top it off, the view added something truly special to our meal.

We’d like to give a special shout-out to Sheper Ahmed who was incredibly kind, helpful, and always smiling. We truly appreciated his warm and accommodating attitude. Although we arrived slightly past lunch hours, he went the extra mile to seat us comfortably and serve us without hesitation – all with a genuine smile. That level of care and hospitality made a big difference and left a lasting impression on us.

The food is much better then one would expect (at least I), for it is a Coffee Bar and not a restaurant from interior. More designed to have a coffee and up your way. Have often had daily menu and was always satisfied. They do not have that much selection, like for example Vappiano, but prepare it very good and do not think they use much food additives. Today I had lamb and it could have been bit more grilled but meet was good and salad as well. Would recommend it since prices are like in most middle range restaurants but food is better than average. Also daily menu is pretty cheap considering what you get(starter or a desert along with the main dish) and the quality of the same as other meals in the menu! Would recommend it for a lunch brake or even a dinner when you would like to have something good but...
