I happened to find this local pub diner when I was desperately searching for a place to eat traditional Viennese food. Because Vienna has become a tourist hub like many other cities of Europe, a traditional place is hard to find unless you ask local old people. I was with a group of friends, and on our last evening stroll before leaving we found Eberhardt's Sechshauser Wirt! The atmosphere of the place gives you a warm family feeling. The interior of the diner is designed in the traditional style: wooden interior setting, nothing modern style fancy (thank god!). The service is just perfect, the owner, a good man who happened to speak perfect Italian, was the loveliest Austrian I met so far. He quickly made us feel at home, and we ordered delicious traditional food. The menu offers a large variety of beers! Try some! They're great. I recommend ordering meatballs.
This is a non-touristy, real Viennese family run diner. Don't expect modern revisited dishes, here you will find local people visiting, a real feel of Austrian food and a traditional setting far from the bustling city centre, near the Sisi Museum.
I highly recommend this place! Add it to...
Read moreThe food is good. And that is where the positive line ends. I am not sure if we had an unfortunate meeting with this place or if it is like this normallt. Through the first ten minutes we witnessed both the owner and the waitress consume two snaps. Because of probably more than just this they were drunk. It took nearly 20 minutes to get the order inn. But the waitress did not get that we ordered vegetables as a side. And when we got the food we asked to get ketchup for the potatoes, which the waitress promptly forgot on her way innside. As said, the food we got was very good. The waitress disappeared inside to drink some beer, and we had difficulties to pay for the meal. We decided to eat as quickly as possible so that we could drink beer somewhere else.
So would I as a tourist recommend this place? Absolutely not, unless you get there before the staff...
Read moreWe came here just because it was nearby other restaurant we planned to visit but they were fully booked, and it was a great find! Restaurant itself isn't very fancy, It looks like mostly locals come here. Very charismatic and energetic staff, we had a good laugh and nice conversation. Food was a very positive surprise, as we didn't expect much. Pork schnitzel was just amazing, super crunchy outside, tender and juicy meat inside. I tried this dish in much more expensive place the next day, and it was way worse. Goulash very tasty as well, meat tender. And it is all basically a half price of touristy...
