At first I really enjoyed the place. It offered good coffee with quick service thus making me return the next day to eat something there as I saw they offer dinner. Unfortunately, everything changed. After sitting down, I didn't get a menu and had to ask one of the waitresses a few times to provide me with one. Afterwards it took virtually ages to order anything. I was sitting there for around 20 minutes again asking waitresses for taking my order until they did so. For some reason they seemed to be more interested in people sitting in the garden and disregarded me but eventually one of them came up and took our order. The food itself was quite all right. If you take anything which has meat in it then you are sure to be full after eating it and it will be tasty. My wife, however, ordered fried vegetables with potatoes and an egg. It was a disaster, completely bland with no salt at all. I'm surprised she ate it. In the meantime an arab man came inside and started begging various people for money which completely took my appetite away as I've never seen such a thing before. I understand streets but in the restaurant? None of the waitresses or kitchen staff was interested to ask him out but one young waitress who is probably the only reason I'm giving three stars. In summary, lazy service who seems not to care about foreigners, treats you as if you were invisible and takes ages to take your order. In some cases, bland food. I really respect the young waitress who was the only interested one to serve the restaurant's foreign customers and the only one to take her job seriously instead of pointlessly chattering...

Read moreKaffee Monarchie has a traditional flair. Few of the original Viennese cafĂ©s have survived the 20th century, which peaked at more than two thousand in number in the 1910s. Unfortunately Kaffee Monarchie does not meet the âNespresso standardâ, meaning that the quality of the espresso served is sadly lacking. This it has in common with many old school coffee shops in Vienna. Apparently, those who can offer atmosphere can compromise on the quality of food and beverage. Kaffee Monarchieâs offering of breakfast choices and cakes is just okânothing to write home about. The very attentive service crew makes up for some of the difference. They are friendly, swift...
