I’ve been a loyal customer of il Mercato for the past 3 years. Whenever I want pizza, I always come here — even for special occasions like my birthday. The pizza is truly the best in town, and the staff usually speak English and provide good service, even though payment is only accepted in cash.
However, during my last visit (30.10.2025), I unfortunately faced very rude and unprofessional behavior from one male waiter. I had reserved a table for 17:30, but upon arrival, we were seated right by the entrance to the toilet, even though several tables were free. After I asked twice to move, the waiter reluctantly agreed but told us we could stay only for one hour and should “eat fast.” He kept checking on us to see if we were done, which made the experience uncomfortable.
Even though another female waitress was kind and helped to choose right pizza.
When we had just finished our pizza and my friend briefly went to the restroom, the waiter came again and very rudely asked us to leave the table, even though the next guests hadn’t arrived yet. This was truly disappointing.
I’ve always loved El Mercato, but I hope management pays attention to how guests are treated. Good food deserves good...
Read moreTucked away in Vienna’s culinary landscape, Pizzeria il Mercato offers a slice of Southern Italy in a colorful, welcoming setting. The outdoor seating is vibrant and full of character, with decorative touches that invite you to linger — though some areas could benefit from light restoration to preserve the charm.
The menu is broad and classically Italian, with a generous selection of pizzas, calzones, and salads, alongside a noteworthy list of authentic Italian beverages that are both refreshing and well-curated.
Food arrives promptly, and it’s a pleasure to report that both the pizza and calzone exceeded expectations — fresh ingredients, excellent dough, authentic flavors, and portions that satisfy without excess. It’s a rare combination of speed and quality.
The service was a standout: warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful in guiding us through the menu. The personal attention in helping us choose the right dish elevated the experience well beyond the average pizzeria.

Read moreWhile the pizza is unquestionably OK, the service is just ridiculous. We got there at 18:45 and asked for a table. We were told they were fully booked as all guests would arrive around 19:00 but we were offered take-away and to wait for the pizza in front of the restaurant. While we waited, other people without reservation got seated and got their pizzas before us. We waited for a whole 50 minutes then, we asked the lady who took our order where our food was, she looked inside and handed us two cold pizza cartons. We asked to reheat them. Everyone can make a mistake and forget something, but this is just pure carelessness. If tables had freed, why did you not offer us a table? When we expressed our concern, the lady just handed the pizzas to us, did not even say sorry or goodbye. We were very angry, but stayed very calm by the way. As Italians we feel offended that this is the way guests are treated at a restaurant abroad that calls itself "italian". Just because your restaurant is full, does not mean you can treat customers this way. This is called arrogance. A simple "sorry for the wait" or "-for the cold pizza" would have been enough
