I hate to say it but the service was really bad. The restaurant was fairly busy, when we got in I ordered a cocktail and the waiter complained about having to make it because it was busy and there were only 2 waiters working, he said it would take a long time to make which I was fine with. When it turned up it was so strong it was near un-drinkable. My partner ordered the fish with potato salad (he’s pescatarian) the vegetarian options are just cheese basically, they delivered our food and his was a whole chicken leg with pasta, we said it was wrong. The waiter said he’d ordered it wrong but asked if we’d eat the chicken anyway and seemed annoyed when we said he wouldn’t. Then after a long wait we got someone’s attention and ordered the kaiserschmarrn the waiter said they didn’t sell that, we pointed to it on the menu, he said ok. We waited 30 minutes and no dessert, we asked the waiter and he said the kitchen said it was finished and they wouldn’t make it. We said fine can we get the bill, waiting another 10 minutes and no bill arrive. Went to the bar to pay and while one waiter was clearer glasses (at 9:50pm so nearly closed, not vital to clear tables) the other waiter was just chatting to some men and looked put out that we wanted to pay. Left feeling thoroughly annoyed and like we’d wasted a lot of time there and been treated fairly rudely. Food tasted fine but absolutely not worth the hassle, go somewhere...
Read moreThere is a lot of great things about this place, especially for a tourist who does not want to be treated and only get the experience of a tourist.
This pub is full of locals who simply come here to enjoy a good local meal, excellent local beer, spend time with friends chatting or by themselves reading the newspaper/book. Whatever. It demonstrates perfectly the lifestyle of Viennese/Austrians.
The menu is full of local food. It is easy to get a good plate of goulash with different add-ins, or schnitzel, or escalope etc.
The price for the food is very reasonable given the portion.
This may be subjective, but I extremely enjoy the decor. I love homey pubs and this place is perfect.
The picture I posted showed the inside of the restaurant, my dinner 1 with Schnitzel and vegetable salad, an order or "tea and rum". This beverage mixture was awesomely interesting for many reason: 1) mixing rum into tea; 2) they legit gave you 2 oz of some Vienna's special rum and 3) the rum cost less than the tea. Altogether, "tea and rum" was only 3.90 Euro.
The last picture was roasted pork with pickled cabbage and very soft and yummy bread, in broth.
I love...
Read moreAfter a wonderful visit of the so lovely Vienna Prater, with lots of ghost rides and a delicious beer at the so famous Schweizerhaus, we went to this restaurant as we were looking for an affordable traditional Austrian restaurant. When entering and seeing the other tables, we expected the day to continue as good as it started. This would have happened if the staff would have taken any responsibilities. I don't know why they didn't serve us well. Maybe cause we were speaking English? We don't know. Anyway, after 20 minutes we were allowed to order. Other guests got there delicious food served, and yes it looked gorgeous and all of them were enjoying, and we . . . we waited . . .and waited . . . . . . and waited. They even started cleaning tables from neighboring tables after they finished eating, when we still were waiting. Those neighbors arrived after us. We ordered just some Schnitzel, so nothing really special. . . However, concluding I can say that this restaurant shows a nice atmosphere most probably has nice food, but didn't want to serve us properly. The reason for that is still a...
