For us, Seven North ticks all the boxes. You walk into Max Brown hotel and you already feel good with their funky interior and nice reception staff. The restaurant in the back is buzzing, the atmosphere and funky yet cozy interior pulls you in, lighting is spot on as is music, staff is flying and the kitchen is literally on fire - well things in the kitchen and fired up on purpose of course. Yesterday we went for the second time, it’s decided, now our go to for occasions as we love us some good food and we especially love us when things come together. We are often bored in Vienna with the same things all over on menus in restaurants and we love it when a place celebrates produce & ingredients without pretentiously trying to reinvent the wheel. For us the many veggie dishes on the menu are fabulous and I can see why someone would say “a single eggplant for 10€?!” but man you gotta taste it. The cauliflower is the best example, not easy to make that big head of veg in a way that is just scrumptious, finger licking, close your eyes when you taste it -gooood. How many times have you tasted hummus in a restaurant and you already forgot about it already after the 1st bite? At Seven North it’s worth to travel for, come just to eat that hummus. Then the whole concept of sharing food just works for anyone who likes variety and a good time. We have to admit the Entrecôte was SO freakin’ fantastic the first time we came, we had to order it again so we cannot say much in terms of the other mains but we looked over longingly when a close by table was served a big dish of fish flambé. We’ll obviously have to go back and explore the rest of the menu.. Twist our arms!! The bar is serious and serves perfect drinks, the staff is uber friendly and warm and even when the place is full and they happen to be in a hurry sometimes, they always make up for it another time with super friendly down to earth international service. Super convenient to top things off: we parked in the hotel garage right under the place and walked in cozily through the house, so it’s accessible if need be. GREAT restaurant, we’ll be back. Thank you for you, Seven North.

Review: Disappointing dining experience. Seven north proclaims to serve dishes which are testaments to top quality and creative cuisine. The dishes ordered (taste and cooking technique) failed to establish any reasoning for this hefty price tag. No recommendation for this restaurant. Price 1/5: 4 main course dishes with drinks for 105€ Cauliflower (signature dish) 0/5: The cauliflower served was simply burnt. One can see on the picture that the majority of flowerets are not edible (black). When mentioning this to the waitress she replied that the guest should try it. After complaining about it a 2nd time, the dish was taken away from the table without a word of sorry. The second cauliflower served was on point cooked. Nevertheless a low light of what chefs call a great dish. Basically it is a cauliflower on a grill with oil. Nothing more nothing less lacking conception and creative cooking technique to bring out the sweetness of this beautiful vegetable. Pizza Blanca with female zucchini and parmesan 1/5: when reading this dish title one would expect a vegetarian pizza. However, the entire pizza has a strong fish taste and was rather a sea food pizza. Any seafood flavour was not listed in the description. A deceit of what you order and what you get served. Artichoke pasta 2/5: overpowering saltiness of the pasta sauce. Not enjoyable. Pasta was al dente, but for this price line the pasta was not home made. A plus goes to the artichoke stripes, which were cooked on point and tender as well as chewy at the same time. Sambusak 3/4: Pizza dough filled with mangold and mozzarella. There are not many dishes nowadays which features mangold as the star of the dish. Solid approach and okay paired spices. Service: artificial smiles and not interested in the food they served nor in their guests

1. Finding out about Seven North: OMG there's this trendy place in town, let's go have dinner and have a good time! 2. Reserving a table for 7 persons at Seven North: Mmh 30€ cancellation fee per person? Sounds sketchy... What, you need to block 210€ on my credit card in order to reserve a table? Am I renting a car or reserving a table at a restaurant? Never seen that in my entire life but okay... 3. Arriving at Seven North: the place looks nice, spacious and industrial-hispsterish style. Well the music is a little loud and we can't hear each other, are we in a club? 4. Discovering the menu at Seven North: are sides included with main dishes? Let's ask the waitress. Okay so, all the dishes on the menu are actually tapas-style side dishes that we need to share. Portions are tiny but prices are not tiny. Baby zucchini, baby pizza, baby cauliflower, but grown-up prices. I calculated average prices per category: Veggie dish: 12.14€, Fish dish: 27.6, Meat dish: 36.57€. Quite pricy for starters-size dishes. The waitress tells us we need at least two "dishes" per person, so approx. 70€/person, not including beverages and dessert. 6. Tasting food at Seven North: a lot of veggie dishes (cheaper to produce I guess). The food is fine and okay-tasty but definitely not "high-end cuisine", as advertised on the menu (even for Austria). Let's be honest, it's easy to turn something tasty when you add up a bunch of oil and spices. In the end, I'd say the venue is nice and well decorated, but the whole thing, including food, is pretentious and the business model is based on ripping off customers, which is not very pleasant... Sorry for the bad review but we really were disappointed and didn't have a nice time at your restaurant. We were happy to get out and go for drinks at the bar next door...

Totally disappointed. We came to the restaurant twice, one for breakfast and the other for dinner.

BREAKFAST: We had breakfast as a hotel guest at Sunday 10am, and breakfast was supposed to be till 11am. I was appalled how rude the staff was.

  1. When we arrived, I went up to the staff to inform her of our room number her reply was rude and abrupt and said sit anywhere you like.

  2. They had a fresh juicing machine, when I asked for some apples to juice, the staff looked very unhappy and did not want to help. So I had to go to the nearby fruit bowl to grab an apple. The machine was stuck so I had to fix it before I could juice, I had not even managed to juice anything she asked me was I done and was on a mission (rush) to clear the juicing station.

  3. I wanted hot water for my tea, but the hot water kettle was empty so I asked a staff for help she totally blanked me out and waved her hand at me and walked away. I was stunned. Then I had to look around for another staff. The first staff which I believe could had been the manager, sent another of her staff to help me with the kettle. This was not a simple kettle I could not pour water in myself. It's a tall water boiler that you need equipment to fill, and whilst filling it the staff asked me was it working. I felt I was doing the work for her.

I do not mind helping but I think there is a fine line when you are a guest, and especially with the 2 other scenarios already mentioned above I just felt there is no service, irony, it is a self service buffet?! (But that only works when everything works, humans are still required to resolve issues)

Then we realise it could be the staff was rushing around to get brunch service set up, but if you intend to say breakfast till 11am, mean it. We felt so rushed and felt we were inconveniencing the staff, totally unwelcome, rude and not calm.

Initially we planned to have relaxing breakfast for the rest of our stay but after the first day we cancelled the idea.

The quality of the food was good but the service is left to be desired.

DINNER: We thought since is a different cuisine we will try it. We asked the staff to give us some idea of how much we should order - we followed suit but I had never felt so guilty of food wastage.

Even when we made the order, we asked the staff again is it too much she said no is fine (i.e she should have said order less first if its not enough order more or save room for dessert?).

For 2 people we were advised to order 4 items (excluding bread) - we felt we were eating for a table of 4.

All the veg came before the meat. By the time you share a whole cauliflower, and half a cabbage between two you couldn't eat any more.

We never waste food and when the meat arrived we felt we could probably finish one but not eat the other dish.

We love our food but when the staff came and ask for comments, we told them we did ask was that too much food, as we had no idea how big their portions were, they work there they should know. The only reply we got was we didnt know how hungry you were? They offered to doggy bag for us but we stayed at the hotel which is not practical as we couldn't store nor reheat. To see a whole main course not eaten I felt more guilty than anything. I never felt I did not want to eat anymore and eating felt like a chore as we were ill-advised of how much we should have ordered.

The food was delicious but probably serving meat with the veg together would have helped? Given the table sizes are not big, it clearly would not have fit 4 dishes for 2 probably there is some common sense in that that either offer 1/2 portions for smaller table guests who still want variety than the aftermath of offering doggy bagging.

We both love veg but when faced with a whole cauliflower and 1/2 a cabbage between 2 to start we felt we were in the never ending abyss of the cabbage patch and were full when the meat arrived.

I have never felt so much displeasure in eating out, especially seeing all the food wasted, let alone the rudeness /...

Summary: great place, now one of my favorite places in Vienna to which I will regularly very frequently return.

Is the food good? Yes, I am an extreme meat lover, but if I could have the vegetable dishes like here everyday, I could imagine becoming vegetarian for life. Melanzani, spinach, cabbage amazing, artichoke and cauliflower just so so. We had t bone and entrecote, both were fine. Nothing unusually good about the meat though. The salad which came with entrecote was really fresh.

Is it expensive? Yes, it definitely is rather expensive and cheap, but I thought it was the good value for money. Obviously if someone is on a budget dinner, I dont recommend. Go else where to get full if you expext a dinner that gets you full for 30€ per person. How is the sharing concept? If you are a big group who hates sharing and evenryone has ro order their food, I dont recommend this place. I dont think their kitchen system is made for that. If you are 4-5 or less and want to order bunch of good food and share in family style, it will be great. Although, I thought that some dishes were really straneous to share, because the table is big and you have to cut everything. If the restaurants intention is to for everyone to share, then I would expect at least some common cutleries to cut and share if served as a whole. And the serving interval is very kitchen orientated. Its not served to you for you ti have best sharing experience. Its more like served to you to make kitchen staffs work easier. We ordered 5 vegetable dishes and 2 steaks to share and like 4 dishes came with 1 minute taxt and steak came and then the last starter came. it just comes whenever its finished, so if you have problems with this, i would recommend you explicitly say you want to have certain dishes in certain row. We didnt mind this at all.

How is the service? I read so many negative reviews on how service personnels dont speak german. I partly understand but then just ask for a personnel who speak German if you feel uncomfortable speaking English. There were definitely a few waiters who spoke excellent German. Its sick how Viennese complain about all kinds of crap. First act not bothered speaking only english then go home and get angry about a place speaking only English. So if you prefer to be served in German, then i recommend you just ask for someone who speaks German. I dont see why a restaurant has to have all german speaking waiters because its in Vienna. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Atmosphere? I liked most of it. The shakey table was annoying and was so big that it was hard to reach all the food in the middle. Reception was fine, music and temperature was fine. Really nicely furnished place. Definitely a good spot for date nights, friendly dinner. Not so great place to go when you have babies and kids with you. Just go else where if you are looking for a quiet place to have dinner with kids and babies. We went there at 19:30 so we avoided the hectic 2 hours time limit. So if you are looking for a comfortable dinner then just go after 19:30. they clearly guide you about the time limit. Why go before 19:30 and complain about the time limit 🤷🏻‍♂️ just go after 19:30 you will have more then enough time to dine and nobody stresses you during...

The food is basic and extremely over-priced. One ends up paying a minimum of 40 to 50 Euros for some bread and a few roasted vegetables. The portions are tiny and the prices are ridiculously high: in a tapas restaurant, a side dish of a single oven-roasted vegetable cannot be 15 Euros!

This place pretends to be a tapas restaurant : no side dish coming with the 37 euros meat plates, because everything is to share so one has to order vegetables dishes in addition to the pricey meat portions. However, meals come uncut and uneasy to share. The caccio e peppe are literally a bowl of spaghetti? How are we supposed to “share” spaghetti ?!

In addition, the music is extremely loud: it is not a club, people having dinner actually expect to talk to one another !

Last, the 30 Euros cancellation fee/person is odd. Not a single restaurant in Vienna dares to do that. Do you expect your stock or sweet potato or cauliflower to turn bad?

In response to Seven North feedback below:

Customers would appreciate that restaurants commit to take feedback into account without indulging in this kind of behavior. I can assure you that every single dish we had was accounted for in the bill of 270 Euros of 7 still-hungry people. You must confuse us with another table or you are simply lying.

Furthermore: we are not friends, I don’t owe you an open-hearted discussion. Google reviews are made to allow customers to provide a feedback afterwards, instead of engaging in a discussion like this one when they are enjoying (or trying to enjoy) an evening with family and friends. This night was not about you so no, we did no feel like losing time calling the manager.

Last, please don’t fool us with your « sustainable agriculture » argument. I would be very very glad to know how much of you 13 euros cauliflower actually goes to the farmer.

About the « we are not a tapas restaurant »: I can assure you that a place where everything is to share, smaller than a starter and where you own waitress recommend to order 1,5 to 2 dish per person, is a tapas restaurant ;) problem here ? Every dish is between 15 and 35 euros. A bit expensive when ordering 2/person, right ?

I suggest that you just take feedbacks into account ( there are many many similar reviews that explain your 4.1 quite low rating) and stop arguing...
