What an amazing little restaurant.
Our Family of Four arrived on a Wednesday evening during the Christmas holidays, they were so polite and able to find us a table. Not speaking enough German to effectively order from the menu, our host made several recommendations for our two boys (12 & 14) of pork & veal schnitzel and pomme frites , and my wife ordered the gnocchi and I had chef's choice, which was the fiaker goulash with potato dumplings. We proceeded our entrees with a sampling of their salads.
Needless to say, we were well taken care of and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. My wife's gnocchi was impossibly tender yet maintained its texture. My faker goulash was very delicately spiced and the chunks of beef were tender breaking under the weight of my fork, my only complaint was the potato dumplings, good....not mind blowing amazing.
The serving of veal schnitzel my oldest son was served was an overflowing plate piled high.....we were sure he wouldn't eat it all....and we were correct....but the small portion of pork schnitzel served to my youngest apparently was amazing and not nearly enough, so he proceeded to devour the remaining pile on his brother's plate.
I did however create a culinary crime while dining.....I took it upon myself to take a medium piece of leftover schnitzel and placed it in my bowl with the amazing sauce from the goulash.......this sparked a visceral response from our host promptly bringing an extra plate and insisting I rescue the schnitzel from the cross contamination. I immediately removed it from the goulash bowl and continued to enjoy it as God apparently intended...on its own merit.
Apparently I attempted to tip too much (as a sign of my gratitude for the excellent food and service we received) but it was refused. That is a first.
Wonderful restaurant a short 10-15 minute walk from the Courtyard Marriott Vienna Prater....
Read moreLocated close to the u2 station a typical Viennese restaurant which tries to modernize the heavy Austrian food with limited success. The menu reads more interesting than it is. There is a cellar for groups without wifi because of the thick walls. The design is also dark wood heavy. The food is oily and arrived after a long break after the appetizer. The restaurant was full so our food arrived nearly 90 minutes after we ordered. The waiters - all male are also very Viennese who have firm opinions about what their guests should be doing and thinking, and they do not shy away from sharing this view with the guests. If you have unusual needs then Godesses should protect you. The kindest gesture of the waiter who forgot that I ordered a mint tea 20 minutes earlier that as a consolatory gesture started to shout behind my chair when I was deeply engaged in a discussion: Zucker! As he was convinced that I need to drink my tea with sugar. When I have not reacted he repeated a little bit louder. In the cellar the acoustics is bad due to the low ceiling and the loud tipsy Austrian business men, this went on for a while till it was really humiliating and I felt bad not drinking my...
Read moreThe restaurant is near to U2 Prater Messe. We came here for the Martini Gansl because the Internet rated them as one of the best restaurants for Martini Gansl (Goose Dish).
The Martini Gansl’s taste is above average. If we really wanna make comparisons with Old Rudi’s Beisl ‘s Martini Gansl, the Old chef owner still cooked the best.
There was lack of butter smell and taste like an ordinary roasted goose.
Euro 36 for 1/4 Martini Gansl. Euro 55 for 3 entry course .
Price is pricey compared to other restaurants.
If you went to Billa Plus, per kilo around euro 13,99–17,99. Around euro 56 /4 kG whole goose.
For the Ganze Gans Bratfertig , Euro 6,99 per kilo. Whole Gans around euro 20,97– euro 23,77.
Nice ambience, nice service and good taste. If you wanna bring your partner for a nice Martina Gansl - it is still...
