DON'T GO TO TRAVEL SHACK IF YOU ARE A TOURIST! One of the worst experiences i've ever had as a tourist around the world. The guys and girls at the bar are completely unprepared to deal with tourists and people from different cultures.
Back in June 2023 i went with a large group of friends (about 20 or 25), and we were enjoying it... Until i went to buy a drink on the bar and it all went downhill, even today i shake in anger just thinking about it.
I reached out to the barman offering my card, so he could take my order... there was other people around, so i was waiting him to finish drinks, and after finishing one, i'd try to get his attention to order, offering my card... 10 minutes later and i was still waiting. Suddenly he turns to me and say "you will not get a drink if you keep doing this". I laughed, thinking he was joking... but no, i realized he was serious, and for some bizarre reason he didn't like me offering my card to get my order. about 2 seconds later, another girl on the bar (who works there) angrily said 'why are you shoving your card on his face?' or something along those lines. Apparently, in Vienna it's not polite to offer a card to ask for a drink, you have to stand still and wait the barmen to come to you. Or something like that. Anyway, that's surreal and bizarre. They started arguing with me, acting as if i was rude to them intentionally or so. It's crazy that a place named TRAVEL SHACK, who deals mostly with toursts, expect people from all over the world to know all the nuances of their culture. In my country, not saying hi to someone you pass by in a corridor is rude, and yet i didn't complain to viennese people for it. And yet, they felt the right to be rude to me because i offered my card instead of just waiting nearby. You work on a tourist place and have no patience to deal with other cultures? And you expect everyone to act exactly the same way as you? i'd understand it if it was a tourist with prejudiced behavior, that kind of thing is unnaceptable in any culture... But just for offering my card it was enough to a bunch of workers getting mad at me and refused to serve me. I'm graduate in tourism, work as an agent and have travelled quite a bit... Ive never seen people sou out of touch with reality, so unprepared to deal with tourists and different people.
I wrote them an email, never heard back, never...
The Travel Shack is a must for any tourist or student visiting Vienna in their 20s and over. It is a place of meeting, fun and sharing; but above all of remembrance. I will never forget the beautiful experience I had, unique in its kind, regarding the iconic shots they offer, and the friendly goliardy that the staff and the other guys possess that make the environment alive. Every person inside, enters with the desire to interact and get to know each other and there are no limits on what relationships can be born thanks to this fabulous place.
I would go back every day to try all kinds of shots and games that the place offers.
I recommend if possible, to book because it is not easy to be able to find a place unless you arrive early.
I just point out that special shots cost a little (5€) but it's worth getting one at least once in your life. There are also appetizers at reasonable prices.
P.s - people I couldn't contact, I hope to meet you again. Thanks to the staff and the whole...
Read moreAwesome place in Vienna, especially for people who are used to going out at night (everything is closed after 9-10pm except travel shack). This is the only place in Vienna we went every night during our holidays and had a blast every time. Staff were all laid back and cool, good variety of beers and great shots. While you don't have to do shots to have fun, they have many great ones that I haven't seen anywhere else. Overall 10/10, most negative comments don't know what they're talking about, I really have nothing bad to say about the place. I guess the bathroom smells a bit but that's what bar bathrooms do . Who cares Don't even think about it and go there...
