AWESOME to see a new BBQ joint in Vienna! I'm an American Expat and amateur pit master, smoking briskets and Boston Butts for over 20 years. I can say this, Trixie Kiddo is the best commercially available BBQ I've had in Austria. Hands down. I have eaten privately cooked better BBQ, but never in a restaurant setting.
My wife and I ordered the Holy Trinity. The Brisket was extremely moist and cooked to perfection. There was a clear smoke ring and the rub provided a nice flavor, far from overpowering, letting the meat and smoke stand on their own. The only critique I'd offer was the fat cap could be reduced down a bit, but this is a crazy small issue. I did notice other plates had smaller fat portions, perhaps we just received a less than perfect piece. The Beef Ribs were perfect. Don't change a thing. The Pulled Pork flavor and moisture was excellent, but I'd prefer (personal choice) the meat to not be as shredded as Trixie pulls theirs. Also, consider trying to get Boston Butts for the pork, vs necks, but I feel their pain. Tough to get good cuts of US BBQ meats in Austria. Some day I hope that changes!
The restaurant was clean, almost sterile, which was a bit strange for me as an American. Please let me explain. I've eaten BBQ from Arizona to Carolinas. Almost every BBq shack was a warm, run down, dive bar, saw dusted floor place. Trixie's tries to mash up American BBQ with a Kill Bill Tarantino construct. It kinda works for Vienna, but just a bit weird for a cowboy boot wearin' Harley ridin’ American.
Our hostess was spectacular. Thanks Carina for all your recommendations and discussion, and thanks for letting me check out the smoker. As a guy who has two Big Green Eggs and a barrel smoker in Burgenland, I loved checkin it out!
This place could easily have a 5 star review, but I'm still mentally torn by the theme not being a true American BBQ joint. That's my issue,...
Read moreI chose this place to celebrate my 40th birthday with my girlfriend. I had high expectations after I heard Adi Bittermann is involved in since I'm a big bbq afficionado. Unfortunately I was disappointed. We ordered holy trinity and smoked cauliflower. Pulled pork was ok. Brisket was very dry and overcooked. Ribs were dry as well that they were hard to chew and swallow. Pickles for two is a joke. It's basically 3 little cubes of veggies and 2 leaves of onion. Without the side mix (which cost extra) Holy trinity alone is just meat with no sides. Definitely not enough for 2 people. It needs at least a small salad or a small bun. Good that we ordered the side mix as well. Bbq potatoes were good. Beans were amazing. Beer was very tasty. Coleslaws were decent. Cauliflower was good as well. But overall, I tasted no smoke flavor at all. Not even a regular bbq smokiness. Everything tasted like they came out of the oven. On top of that we've been given the only table without a light on top, everything was so dark I couldn't distinguish the meat from fat. When we told the waitress that its very dark, she said she's sorry but couldn't offer any solution like turning up the lights more or move us to the next table even though the restaurant was completely empty at 17:00 o'clock.
2 stars for the good beer and tasty sides. Unfortunately doesn't deliver the 'smoked bbq' experience in it's name.
Probably won't be going...
Read moreDefinitely a place we will be visiting again. I wanna praise this restaurants nice, friendly and helpful staff! Not only were they quick and friendly, they also took the time to advise customers and answer any questions!
The establishment is very clean and spacious. When you enter the restaurant you immediately smell the meat and cooking from the kitchen. We had a reservation for 17h, the restaurant started filling up pretty rapidly after 18h, the staff still managed to bring out the food fast, check in on customers and clear of the tables in a timely manner.
As for the food, which arrived pretty quickly after placing our order, the brisket - while a little high on fat - was amazingly tender and tasty. We ordered „Holy Trinity“ alongside the „Side Mix“ - advertised for two people. If you order 1-2 more sides it‘s realistic for 3 people to enjoy this order. The potatoes were tasty and most importantly crispy. I usually do not enjoy Coleslaw but this I genuinely enjoyed this one! Very fresh, not at all soggy or drenched in mayonnaise or anything like that. We ordered the cauliflower instead of beans, sadly we did not enjoy it as much as we thought we would. Overall the food was very fresh, amazingly prepared...
