Weingut Feuerwehr Wagner — Restaurant in Vienna

Grinzing is a special part of Vienna. In the 19th district, it is in the NW corner of Vienna and is known especially for large Heuriger which are a special kind of restaurant. A heuriger is run by a vineyard and serves their wines along with simple Austrian cuisine. Usually, drinks are served by a waiter/waitress, who keeps a running tab at your table, and you retrieve food by yourself from their kitchen, which is set up somewhat like a delicatessen. The area around Grinzing has become so successful that this erstwhile "side-business" has almost become the business focus of many vineyards in the area. This is problematic because they are really better at making wine than dealing with the efficiency challenges of serving throngs of guests who want to eat. Weather permitting, seating is outside in beautiful, tree-shaded gardens, and convivial socializing is the norm. Perhaps a victim of their success, our recent visit at the Feuerwehr Wagner was highlighted by non-existent drink service and extremely long wait times at the kitchen (about 45 minutes in line). We had to chase down a waiter or run to the Schank (bar) for every beverage that we wanted. Unfortunately, I don´t think the situation will be a lot different at other large operations in Grinzing. If you´ve never been to this part of Vienna, it is probably worth it for the historical flair, but be warned that there are crowds on warm days, the food is simple and on the pricey side, and the service...

Another of our favorite places in Vienna! The view and the trip to Grinzig are always a treat, specially when the weather is warm. The food is simply outstanding! They have vegan choices, even a vegan schnitzel that my daughters love, and they have all the typical Heuriger fare, like spreads, and bread, and many salads, plus many delicious warm dishes. Like in most Heurigers, the wine is cheap and good (you can always order the "old one" if you want something a little better), they have plenty of cookies and other desserts if you want them, and even coffee. A super complete menu and great prices! For the kind of crowd that they get during evenings and weekends, the service is quite fast too (the food is self service, you have to order and bring the tray to the table but they bring you the drinks, like it is customary). The ladies that serve the counter do magic! I have no idea how they can be so efficient and fast but once you get to your turn you will not wait very long until you can have your food. Unfreundlich, inkompetent und dazu auch noch arrogant. Bei diesem Heurigen hat man wirklich das Gefühl nicht willkommen zu sein.

Haben eine Geburtstagsfeier dort gehabt, zuerst war kein Platz drinnen zur Verfügung, am Tag direkt dann plötzlich doch! Es wurde weder gratuliert noch sich herzlich um die Gäste gekümmert. Man hatte viel eher das Gefühl, dass man schnell wieder gehen soll. Kellner total unfreundlich und nicht hilfsbereit.

Heute waren wir wieder dort, weil das Essen ja prinzipiell nicht schlecht war und wir wurden erneut schwer enttäuscht!

Nach über 40 min kam einmal ein Kellner, auf die Frage ob wir eine Karte haben könnten, brachte er uns 1 obwohl wir 4 Personen waren, etwas wenig finde ich. Weitere 30 min später, habe ich einen Kellner gefragt, ob wir eventuell auch bestellen könnten. Er sagte ja, kam aber nie wieder. Weitere 20 min später haben wir dann einen anderen Kellner gebeten, dieser hat uns die Getränke dann auch endlich gebracht.

Als wir zahlen wollten, habe ich wieder den gleichen Kellner gefragt, der wieder ja antwortete, ich habe ihn dann darauf hingewiesen, dass es nett wäre, wenn er diesmal wirklich kommt und nicht so wie bei den Getränken, darauf kam nur die Antwort, dass es nicht sein Bereich ist. 5 min später war er aber am Nachbartisch, für den er dann offenbar wieder zuständig war.

Es kam dann ein Kellner zum bezahlen, dieser steckte sich einfach die Differenz vom gegebenen Betrag ein, ohne zu fragen, ob man überhaupt Trinkgeld geben möchte, bzw ohne dass jemand gesagt hat, er könne das Geld behalten, denn Trinkgeld muss man sich verdienen und das war hier definitiv nicht der Fall. Nach dem aufmerksam machen, gab er das Geld zwar zurück, aber auch nicht freundlich und mit einer Entschuldigung wie es zu erwarten wäre. Als ich ihm beim Gehen noch darauf hingewiesen habe, dass der Kellner wirklich unfreundlich war und wir uns etwas mehr Beachtung gewünscht hätten als Kunden sagte er nur: auf Wiedersehen, schönen Tag noch. Die frechste Antwort die ich je gehört habe und absolut inkompetent, eine Entschuldigung wäre da absolut angebracht gewesen und ich erwarte mir von geschulten Kellnern auch, dass sie wissen, wie man respektvoll mit Kunden umgeht und was man sagen kann und was ein NO-GO ist! Also wir kommen sicherlich nie nie wieder!

Einen netten Tag stelle ich mir definitiv ganz anders vor und dafür, dass der Preis doch nicht so billig ist, erwarte ich mir Qualität...
