I have been a customer for 25 years but at that time the restaurant was called Kowloon, not Kimpura. I almost invariably order beefsteak Chinese style with rice or fish with black bean sauce and rice, both double portion, and, lately, meaning the last six months, with an extra portion of garlic rice, because portion sizes have shrunk. I have been getting double portions for ten years now but 25 years ago portion sizes were so big that one portion had been more than ample! I also like the crispy noodles but takeaway because the sauce is too messy (gravy splatters) and I ask only for veggies. At home, I add shrimp, broccoli and, sometimes, peas to the crispy noodles with veggies. I also like the steamed siomai with soy sauce but the soy sauce, as well as the complimentary cup of chicken soup, is a bit salty. Once in a rare while, I take the uncrispy noodle for dine-in (no messy gravy) that is served with mixed chicken and beef; I prefer the beef. Although not recently, I have also ordered chop suey and have liked it. Interestingly, unlike many Filipino restaurants (e.g., Cyclone), Kumpura's menu is halal; there is no pork. Other menu items I have tried but I have not enjoyed [beef schezuan, beef bitter melon, adobo and, no longer on the menu, siopao] so I stick with the fixed repertoire described above. I always ask for a plentiful quantity of chopped chili for all dishes. The place is very small -- just four tables so I tend to go for late suppers after 10pm (at which time there is a greater probability to find an empty table) but before 11pm (closure). In my experience, BTW, I found the cooking at Kimpura here slightly better than at the Kimpura off the Zubara road. branch. As long as you are not seeking barbecue, I recommend Kimpura for Filipino food, which, in Manama, is much more economical than either...
Read moreI’ve been going to this restaurant every now and then for the last 8 years and the quality of food has not changed at all. Kimpura is a Filipino/ Chinese restaurant that offers delicious home like food with most affordable prices around. The place is very modest and it’s simplicity is unique.

I hope they hire more waiters but food is good. Place could use some...
