I adore Thai food and I don’t know many people who don’t. On my first visit of three in total, I chose the Pad Thai and spring rolls. The restaurant is located in a busy neighbourhood with some parking available. Inside the restaurant itself they have tried to make it look authentic as possible. The staff are certainly Thai, it’s a cosy dining area and there’s local traditional decor.
It’s clean and the seating is upright wooden benches with cushions. The menu has photos of familiar Thai cuisine and also some other Asian options. My pad Thai was ok but not like anything I’ve tasted in Thailand. My coconut bubble smoothie was excellent, spring rolls standard.
My second visit was with my work colleagues, their choice of restaurant. We had the Tom Yum soup with prawn and seafood. Chicken in coconut with mango sticky rice, spring rolls and chilli beef with vegetables. Mineral water, mango smoothies were the drinks ordered. It was all reasonable.
My third and final visit today was with a friend from Kerela. We shared the red curry beef with mango sticky rice. Spring rolls and coconut bubble smoothie. The red curry was awful. The beef was far too tough. The curry was more like soup. No texture, minimal flavour or aroma. We left most of it. Very disappointed and I shall never return again. It’s a shame as this is a popular destination and the staff...
Read moreExcellent food and good ambience. The waitresses are however a mixed bunch. A few of them need a whole 360 degree attitude adjustment. The waitress during our last visit there (and we have been there many times) refused to smile and came across as downright rude and careless. For instance, she took down an order wrongly and when we gently mentioned it to her, she got all defensive and basically claimed she was right and we were wrong. Not wanting to create a scene, we let the matter go.
If the waitress in question is reading this, you seem unhappy with your job and should seek other opportunities. If this is really what you want to do, you won't survive in the service business for very long if you keep up with your current attitude to your clients.
We love the food but the next time we go there, we'll be sure to ask to be served by an actual server, not a surly hostel matron.
Update - September 2024: They seem understaffed as after taking down our order and serving our food, they never bothered checking back on whether everything was OK and if we needed anything else. They didn't even bother bringing us the cheque which we settled on...
Read moreNestled in a cozy alley in Juffair, Siam thai offers an authentic for anyone craving traditional Thai flavors. The restaurant has a laid-back, casual atmosphere, with a touch of Thai decor that adds to its welcoming vibe. It’s a hidden gem, tucked away from the main street, but well worth the visit.
We started with the papaya salad, shrimp, tempura, shrimp cake, dumplings and sundried pork fry( No 10 on the menu). For the main course, we had the phat kaphrao and chicken red curry. They were perfectly cooked, and the dish was bursting with flavor, featuring a beautiful balance of sweetness, saltiness, and just the right amount of spice.
What stood out was how authentic the flavors felt—it was clear that the ingredients were fresh, and the dishes were made with care. The spice levels can be adjusted to your liking, which is a plus for those who enjoy Thai food but are wary of too much heat.
If you’re in the area and craving something flavorful and authentic, this is a...
