Deck 13 is a small and cozy restaurant. It’s beautifully decorated which has it’s own charm. The pier and boat themed decor definitely helps itself stand out from the endless pool of restaurants in Dhanmondi. The staffs were very well mannered and friendly. They are definitely the star of the restaurant. Now coming to food, it is mixed emotions from me. The fried calamari was hot and tasted good but it has a little too much breading. I wish it has a little less breading so it would’ve been better. The Jalapeño Chicken was very good. Still, I wish it had a little bit more fragrant or essence of jalapeño so it would’ve been worthy of that name. The mashed potatoes were exactly to my liking. Unfortunately, the sautéed mushrooms were terrible. At first what they served us felt like as if they just chopped up some mushrooms from the can, seasoned it and served it to us. After we complained, they stir fried it a little more and the picture I uploaded is the final result. It got a bit brown but was very bland and flavourless. When we were done eating, we suggested them that they should seriously handle their mushroom side dish but they claimed that as they have changed suppliers, so the end product is like this. Read moreWe had a party for 45 people. Booked the whole place from 5 PM to 8 PM. The usual capacity of the place is for 40 people, so had to bring in a few extra seats.
The panoramic view from the restaurant was amazing. In the afternoon we could see the Abahoni Field where kids were playing. After sundown, the cityscape, lights and the roads looked nice.
Inside the restaurant, the atmosphere was very soothing. As the name is Deck 13, the atmosphere has a marine vibe, like we're inside a medieval wooden ship. I liked that the food was served on the best quality of wooden platters that I've seen in Bangladesh.
The chicken lollipop and fries as appetizers were delicious. And then we had the chicken steak platter for the main dish. The chicken was extraordinary. Vegetables were so so. Fried rice was also good. We will come back for more parties here in future.
One recommendation to the restaurant: Fix your Air Conditioners. Out of 3 ACs of 1.5 ton, only 2 were working. With panoramic glass as walls the place needs at least 2 more ACs for summer days with a full house. People who were not directly in front of the AC units were sweating. Let's set the scenario: it's Eid day, you wanna eat some good calamari after fasting for an entire month. The taste and texture of beguni sorta got to your nerves at this point. You order the calamari and what do you get? You get calamari with this beshon like substance and the texture and taste feels eerily similar to beguni. I didn't want squid beguni just so you know.
I'm not upset about the food, the calamari just threw me off guard for a bit there. The rest of the food was just okay, a bit underwhelming for the price I was paying.
And did you use Dano powdered milk for the mashed potatoes and mushroom soup? That definitely tasted like powdered milk, though I could be wrong. Powdered milk did nothing wrong. But why, haven't we had enough nightmares of Dano and Nido milk already?
