Significant Decline in Quality and Serious Concerns Over Food Preparation
I have been a customer of Utshob in the past, but based on my last experience, I will not be ordering from here again. The quality of the food has unfortunately declined significantly across the board, and I have serious concerns regarding both order accuracy and kitchen practices.
Issues with Food Quality and Accuracy:
Coconut Duck: I ordered the Coconut Duck but received a dish that contained no coconut whatsoever. Furthermore, the duck portion was extremely poor—it consisted almost entirely of bone with virtually no meat.
Rohu Fish (Roi Fish): The Roi Fish dish was equally disappointing. Instead of a quality cut, I received extremely small pieces that were again predominantly bone, making it nearly impossible to eat and find any actual fish.
Drink Mix-Up: The accompanying drink, which was supposed to be mango juice, was replaced with lassi without any prior notice or consultation.
Concerns Over Preparation and Hygiene:
It appears that the food is not being freshly prepared. The texture and taste strongly suggested that the dishes were pre-cooked, chilled, and then reheated, which severely compromises both flavor and safety.
A particularly worrying practice was observed with the tea. It seems the tea is brewed hours in advance and then simply warmed up in a microwave oven before serving. Reheating beverages, especially tea, in a microwave is a poor practice and raises concerns about freshness and proper service standards.
Call to Management:
This experience felt like a complete waste of money. When we attempted to provide feedback, the serving staff appeared entirely indifferent and disinterested in our concerns. Management needs to urgently address these issues:
Review and ensure the quality of ingredients (e.g., serving meat, not just bones).
Mandate that all orders are freshly prepared.
Provide immediate and thorough training to all staff on customer service, order accuracy, and proper food handling.
Until these fundamental issues are resolved, I cannot recommend this...
Read moreI was tempted to visit Utshob because it was put forward as the 'authentic Bangla experience'. However, I must say it is anything but that. I have tried several things from here and it is safe to say that this is very below average kind of food, very far from the deliciousness that is Bengali cuisine. First of all, their fuchka is so bland and watery, only thing I got inside was tonns of onion and corriander, barely any spices of the filling. The tea was poured from a thermos and heated in a microwave (this was extremely shocking, as per Bengali tradition the original Masala tea must be prepared fresh on the stove), it was served lukewarm and contained very little 'masala'. The famous Ilish Khichuri was also mediocre, you can get a lot better and cheaper options at places like Shalimar and others (check food panda, it has many good recs). Would never recommend a foreigner to try this because they would get a wrong idea about Bengali cuisine, which is a lot more rich and flavourful and affordable than Utshob ever is. Do better before propagating yourselves as a reflection of such...
Read moreTried Utshob at Chef’s Table, Gulshan 2, for the first time—and instantly realized it’s on a different level from most restaurants claiming to serve Bengali cuisine. The hygiene was spotless, the food fresh, and the taste truly satisfying.
Later, I discovered that Utshob is a concern of United Group, which explained the quality—there’s clearly a strong, dedicated team behind it. If other Bengali restaurants followed their approach to maintaining food quality, they too would earn lasting customer appreciation.
Sadly, many popular Bengali restaurants focus on profit so heavily that reviews and customer experience take a back seat. With Bangladesh’s growing demand for quality dining, I believe other conglomerates could also explore the chain restaurant business here—there’s huge untapped potential for those willing to invest...
