Sadly, this was not the experience I was expecting. I’ve been keeping up with Calma on social media since it opened. I’ve finally made it to Barbados and I made sure this was on the top of my bucket list.
To start, we were greeted with some sort of settled water at the front entrance. We had to step over this water in order to get in to the restaurant.
We requested a table in their dining area but they sat us in their bar area instead. This bar area consisted of high top tables, and high chairs. Which can get extremely uncomfortable while eating a meal. This area was also off to a corner which did not give the beach club vibes and views that they promote on their socials.
The hostess said she would speak to her manager and see if we could change over to one of the empty tables in the dining area. The manager came over to our table in a very aggressive manner stating the dining table was reserved. (Strangely there wasn’t a reserved sign on the table) and if we wanted one of those tables we should have reserved it in our booking. However, this was not an option on the online booking. The manager wouldn’t let up or even budge to get us a more preferred seating. Eventually she told us there was a table on the deck but at this point we were so annoyed we decided to stay at the high table.
We proceeded to place our drinks order with the lovely waitress Sharise. As the drinks were being prepared we were reviewing the menu and had a few questions. Another waiter had passed by our table at that very moment so we figured we could ask him to get Sharises attention when he had a chance. To my surprise, the waiter mumbled something and pretty much brushed us off. However, on his way back he had to pass our table and now he came to the table asking us what we wanted. We told him to forget it. Sharise had came over to our table shortly after. We decided to pack up our belongings and leave. As I’m a huge believer in customer service and I knew that even if we stayed and purchased food, it would not make up for the terrible service we received within the first 20 mins of our stay at Calma…
Sharise was definitely the best part of our experience. As we reached our car, Sharise came out of the restaurant to apologize and we also explained to her what had happened while she was dealing with her other guest.
All in all, this was not the experience I was expecting to have and I’m greatly disappointed with the lack of attention to...
Read moreWe’ve been coming to Barbados for 17 years and what makes the island for us are the warm, hospitable Bajan people. This was our first visit to Lacalma and also our last. We walked in from the beach and straight to the reception area. We were approached by a young man in the “blue T shirt” uniform and I asked him for a table for lunch. The restaurant was empty apart from one other occupied table. He showed us to a table . After a few moments a lady who I’m assuming was the front of house manager approached our table and asked us if we had been before. We said this was our first time. She then proceeded to “reprimand” us and explain that in future we shouldn’t just come in and take a seat as they are a very busy restaurant and the table we were seated at was already reserved. She said we should have gone to reception. We explained that’s exactly what we did and that one of her colleagues had seated us. She wasn’t convinced so asked us to point out which person. We explained we weren’t sure and she said we shouldn’t have taken instruction from a waiter. We advised her that he was standing at reception and there was no indication he was a waiter. She finished off by telling us “you learn something new everyday”. She then returned to reception and proceeded to ask all the staff if anybody had shown us to a table. Eventually one of the team said he did. This was the opportunity for an apology but none was forthcoming. Clearly humility wasn’t part of the service at LaCalma. To add perspective the “busy” restaurant filled one other table in the whole time we were there and the group of 4 could not have reserved our table as it wasn’t big enough. You learn something everyday!! What I learnt was that the island is full of good restaurants with staff who embrace customer service. LaCalma isn’t...
Read moreCalma Beach Club is truly a gem in Barbados, offering the best beach and dining experience our family has ever enjoyed. With two small children, finding a place that caters to both the kids’ fun and our relaxation can be a challenge, but Calma Beach Club hits the mark perfectly.
The beach is pristine, with soft sands and crystal-clear waters that are ideal for children to play in. The gentle waves and the safe environment provided by the attentive staff make it a worry-free experience for us parents. Our little ones, aged 4 and 2, absolutely love building sandcastles and splashing around in the shallow waters.
As for the restaurant, it’s a culinary delight. The menu is diverse, offering something for everyone, including kid-friendly options that our children adore. The fresh seafood is a must-try – it’s like a taste of the ocean on your plate. The staff are incredibly welcoming and accommodating, always going out of their way to ensure we have everything we need.
The ambiance at Calma Beach Club is just what you need for a relaxing day – tranquil yet vibrant. It’s a place where you can unwind, enjoy a delicious meal, and watch your children play in one of the most beautiful settings in Barbados.
We’ve visited many beach clubs, but Calma Beach Club stands out as the best in Barbados. It’s not just a beach club; it’s an experience that has become a highlight of our family vacations. Highly recommended for families looking for the perfect blend of beach fun and...
