This is absolutely a Michelin star quality place! I’m so so impressed! The food is absolutely amazing- so tasty! And their attention to detail is at the level I’ve never experienced in Belarus.
I recently ordered a Tom Yum from them and was blown away!!!! It was identical and even tastier than any Tom Yum I’ve ever had in Thailand! (I’ve lived in Thailand for a long time and Tom Yum is my all times favourite- so I kinda know what I’m talking about) Not only did Umami’s Tom Yum taste like the best of Tom Yums I’d get in Thailand, but also all of the ingredients were precise and authentic - from a very specific type of mushroom that they most often use for a Tom Yum in Thailand, to green Thai mussels that I rarely see in Europe let alone in Belarus. Anyways, the reason I’m raving about the Tom Yum so much is because since I moved away from Thailand 3 years ago, I could never find an authentic Tom Yum anywhere, this is a dish that is notoriously horribly made outside of Thailand.
To the headchef- thank you so so much for you...
Read moreWonderful Asian cuisine. This is one of the best places I've been to in Minsk. I enjoyed poke and bao bun with pork belly. The rolls were very descent as well - the salmon tataki roll was very tender and delicious. Tar tare was okay but in general I did not feel the taste of the meet as the sides were too flavourful. Prices are on the expensive side as the portions are not large, but it is the price worth paying given the quality you get. The desserts were good but not exceptional to my taste - still the coconut mousse looked amazing in the coconut shell. What I do think should be improved is the pricing model - charging money for soy sauce, wasabi etc in an Asian food bistro is a strange decision that leaves an unpleasant aftertaste. At least the...
Read more5 stars is interesting because it implies the restaurant is perfect. Well UMAMI really is perfect given its market position as a minimalist purveyor of lightly fusioned mostly Japanese Asian grub. The physical location is a minimalist pleasure with very clean white walls warmed up with great woods. And the cutlery is handsome and exclusive to the restaurant. And the food? Well the Avocado (non dairy) Cream to start is a stunner with nuts and edememe and puts every Hummus you ever had to shame and the bread it comes with is mist enough and crusty enough to remind of Calabria. And the vegetable roll? The best I ever had everywhere. Non vegans? Order lobster 🦞 which I'm told is "slammin.'" What a...
