Dôme sur Mer — Restaurant in Antwerp

I made reservations here for my wife for a Valentine's dinner as we had received a gift voucher from friends. We were greeted by a young man behind the bar who couldn't hear us so we had to yell back and forth over the bar and diners until he indicated where we could sit. We sat ourselves in the hallway outside the bathroom door and waited so long to be acknowledged that the server, unprompted, apologized for it. Two tables away a loud patron in the corner yelled messages into his phone throughout the evening to add to the ambiance. It felt cramped and we were uncomfortably close to adjacent tables.

We had the two-person seafood platter w/ champagne. Sins to that point were forgiven as the seafood was delicious and fresh. We did have to ask for bread while other tables clearly received it. Then we waited 40m for our main plates to be cleared. The table adjacent had sat after us received their dessert menus and submitted their dessert orders before we received our menus. We debated staying for dessert but ultimately there was nothing sweet enough to slake the returning sourness.

The check arrived and the server said he can't give us the difference in another gift voucher because the owner, the only one who can dispense a gift certificate, is on holiday or some nonsense. My wife and I were there trying to find solutions for this clearly challenged server who had never been in this situation before. As there was no solution we were both happy with, we were forced to use the remainder of our gift certificate on an over-priced bottle of wine as take-away. Really, if your waitstaff is unable to handle redemption of gift certificates -- please don't issue them!

We found the seafood excellent but the atmosphere and service inferior for the price. I am grateful we spent the rest of the voucher so we wouldn't...

It was a very refreshing experience: the service is friendly, nothing is too complicated, there is a tranquility, neatness and cleanness while the kitchen is open, it gives a cosy atmosphere

Then the food; it was very tasty and prepared with care, attention and professional pride. Once it was noticed we shared a few dishes to get a taste of a bit of everything, our main dish was even split and presented in 2 portions without being requested.

With an atmosphere where nothing is too much, and there is attention and care for the customers without making a circus or show about it. Seeing the kitchen staf work in the open kitchen with the same tranquil vibe.

Everything is just as it should be. Nothing too much, nothing too little. We had a very pleasant evening here and returned home satisfied...
