For a full month i have clearly expressed my opinion about the business “Kommilfoo”. The review had a lot of support from other reviewers, and after explaining why, also Google backed the need of such a review here. In short, the owner/main chef has a son who unfortunately was a key member of the notorious Reuzengom student group. Although not present at the unfortunate events, he did actively communicate with the local team on that night. For some reason, a youtuber mentionned both restaurant name and activty. For some reason, this restaurant had decided to tackle this youtuber in court. And for some bizarre reason, key aspects were not considered in that case and the restaurant has won. Afterwards, the youtuber started a petition for cash and generated an incredible 150.000k to cover damages from this illicit request by Kommilfoo. Showing how you and I, the general public, not just the youtuber community, felt about all this. He promised to send any excess budget from that money to the Sanda Dia foundation. I hereby ask the owners - who clearly read all these reviews - to consider to forfeit those damages so this all can be put to rest. All that money can and should be sent directly to that foundation. Its the only right thing to do. People didnt support that cause so their money - also my money - would be used to fund Kommilfoo. The money is to be given fully to Sanda Dia foundation.
That having been said, i also hope the calm returns then. Because it is correct too, the owner/chef here is a masterpiece in his work, and is best to focus again on that, on his food, his art, his passion. Also, as the other reviews confirmed, the restaurant itself - and then i mean the maitre, the chefs, the personnel are absolutely not to blame and shouldn’t be punished for this commotion. The food is exquisite, that is true.
I will re-assign in my review the restaurant opinion. As that is the only just thing to do. I can only hope Olivier will also do the right thing. Not for the Youtuber. But for Sanda Dia, and giving his father the necessary funding to help his new foundation change the world to a...
Read moreI travel rarely to Antwerp. I was in this restaurant two years ago with friends and was very pleased with food and environment. Therefor I decided to come during this trip again with a party of six. We were asked to take the 6 course set menu because of the party size, which was acceptable to us. We received two amuses bouche with the Champagne ordered and then went through the first two courses of the dinner. Unfortunately, there was another party of 8 of whom one man was extraordinarily and ennoyangly loud. I asked a waiter whether it was possible to inform the man about his annoying behavior, but nothing happened. I then asked a bit later the hostess to do this. She bluntly refused. So I went myself to the table and asked politely whether he could lower his voice. The man aplogized and I thought the problem was solved. But 2 minutes later he came to my table, clearly drunk, telling me that he discussed this with his table, and they felt he didn't do anything wrong. So the shouting continued. I informed the hostess that this behavior was unacceptable for an establishment of this level, but she responded it was often worse. That was enough for us. I asked the bill for what we had consumed thus far, i.e. one third of the set menu and one third of the accompanying wine arrangement. The chef came out the kitchen apologizing and asking us to reconsider, but did not offer any solution So we left. It is unacceptable for a star-rated restaurant to tolerate obnoxiously loud behavior of patrons and to refuse to do anything about it. I can accept this for a brasserie, not for a high-end restaurant. My advice: stay away and select a place where staff is trained to handle such situations...
Read moreBeen here several times, never disappointed. The restaurant itself is very minimalistic, yet tastefully decorated. Ideal setting for a business lunch during the day, but also nice for a romantic dinner in the evening. The staff is very friendly and professional, they really know their stuff. The food is always a winner. For a michelin star restaurant, the portion size is actually on the large side, which I can definitely appreciate. They make use of very special ingredients (twice I've had the really delicious goat, a meat I've never had anywhere else), and during my last visit my favourite dish was a vegetarian starter with black salsify (similar to white asparagus but not quite) and a poached egg that was absolutely heavenly. All in all, definitely...
