Mico and Jon, a fusion Asian restaurant nestled in the heart of Antwerp, offers a gastronomic experience that is truly unparalleled. With a menu brimming with delectable dishes, our dining experience at Mico and Jon was nothing short of extraordinary.
From the moment we stepped foot into the restaurant, we were greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance, setting the stage for an unforgettable culinary journey. Eager to explore the diverse flavors on offer, we decided to indulge in the whole menu, and we were certainly not disappointed.
Our culinary adventure commenced with a refreshing and crunchy fresh salad, bursting with vibrant colors and crisp textures. The combination of flavors was harmonious, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to using the freshest ingredients.
Next up were the cold noodles, a delightful dish that showcased the perfect balance of flavors and textures. The noodles were cooked to perfection, accompanied by an array of delectable toppings that added depth to each bite.
Moving on to the meat and veggie dumplings, we were treated to an explosion of flavors. The dumplings were beautifully crafted, showcasing the skill and artistry of the chefs. Each bite was a harmonious blend of savory fillings enveloped in a delicate wrapper.
The Venus clams, a true highlight of the menu, delighted our palates with their succulent and briny flavors. The clams were prepared with finesse, allowing their natural essence to shine through.
The focaccia with grilled cauliflower was a revelation. The combination of the fluffy bread and the charred cauliflower created a symphony of flavors that left us craving for more.
The grilled squid with potatoes showcased the restaurant's expertise in preparing seafood. The squid was tender and perfectly grilled, complemented by the comforting presence of potatoes.
For those craving a carnivorous delight, the steak proved to be a showstopper. Cooked to perfection, it was juicy and tender, with a flavor profile that was simply exceptional.
To round off our meal, we opted for a refreshing umeshu, a delightful Japanese plum wine that provided the perfect ending to our culinary exploration at Mico and Jon.

Read moreOur best meal - ever. We're chefs, having worked around the world in restaurants with distinction, cooked for Queens, PM,s and most importantly our families - this was the one we wish we could claim as ours!
Our 1st encounter with Mico as we arrived gave us the impression that all was good and we had made a great decision to eat here. Her gentle ways, welcoming and loving showed all the way through the evening. This is accentuated by the sublime and technical cooking skills from Jon. Both it seems prep the food together in the morning, with Mico circling back during service to help plate up which keeps the food hot and looking beautiful as a result.
Our meal, a celebratory one was executed brilliantly. The pace of the meal surrounded by the subdued lighting and low key ambient music was refreshing and left us feeling very fulfilled in every sense. There was no hurry thankfully.
The wine pairings they chose were what put the meal over the top. Interesting and unusual selections from around Europe made every sip, every bite nuanced in their collective combinations, a feast for the senses. As chefs we had moments to try disassembling the dishes to no avail, so M&J's recipes rightly stay secret! We enjoyed that fact.
Mico and Jon's humble sensibilities permeate through the fully booked restaurant (20 seater?). Guests around us from all over the world all seemed to be having a wonderful time. Mico, the perfect host I believe spoke to everyone in their own language as she seamlessly and quietly moved around the restaurant for quick chats, delivering meals, pouring wines, clearing and offering notes on the food as everyone was totally engaged on the moment. Not a phone was used except for photos, how lovely!
They rightly take time off together as a family so you will need to book ahead as this is not a 7 day operation.
Mico and Jon both met us as we left to wish us a safe journey onward, it was comforting to know that every guest matters.
We wish them many happy tears as a family owned operation.
If you book, please ensure to arrive as it's only a 20 seater, no turnovers I think. We always use cash in smaller independent stores etc, as credit costs affect their bottom line. This from fellow small...
