I spotted this place whilst searching the internet, prior to our visit to Brugge. As it was on our route into town from the Station, I thought it would make a decent lunch or dinner venue. I wasn't wrong. Even though it was 19.30 on a Saturday night and we hadn't made a reservation, the two waitresses were happy to help and offered us a table for two which was promptly set out and our beer delivered just as quickly! Food took 45 minutes to arrive but they were busy and rushed off their feet. Seeing as we hadn't pre booked, it wasn't a problem. It was great to people watch and soak up the ambiance of such a quaint little place. Food was exceptional, lots of it and served piping hot. The curry plate for two people at €51 is more than enough food with rice and salad refillable at no extra cost! We popped back the next day for a beer and to say a quick thank you to the staff for being so helpful and accommodating!

We went there on a rainy Friday night and it was packed. We sat on the patio, where it was rather cold - we asked to be moved inside, if a table ever became free but they denied it, and eventually turned on the heating. We were in 3 people and got 2 entrees and 1 dish for 2 people, which ended up being waay too much food. The curry took a really long time to come (over an hour)! The food was really good, but the menu is not very clear on the prices of each item. The English version doesn't even list the ingredients, so it's hard to have an idea of what a dish contains or how big it is. We also ended up being overcharged, so be sure to go over your bill at the end. Some of the staff is nice, some of them are rude.

Really wanted to believe the hype but must have got them on a bad day. Our mostly non drinking, small family with Gran, a driver and two children they must have seen us coming... Arrived with kids and got a large table, tick. Asked if we wanted drinks, tick and requested tap water and one beer, get brought a 1ltr bottle of still water (later identified to cost €10) which obviously was to make up for the underspend of the children!! Pasta was ok, nothing special, burger was over cooked and over priced but I guess that's Brugge for you! Shame as everyone else seemed to enjoy their meal. If we weren't in a rush to eat and leave I would have had the discussion. Hope others get a better experience.

De Stoepa has a nice atmosphere. They serve sweet potato fries instead of regular fries. That sets them apart from other restaurants. Especially since they are flavorful. So, I appreciated that a lot!

However, I had the burger and it too well baked. My girlfriend had the vegetarian one and it contained cilantro. Personally I find that a strange and poor decision as this is a polarizing herb. I gave the vegetarian burger a try and I did not like it! The meal in its whole did not leave me satisfied nor full.

Now let's talk about the price. To me it was way more expensive for what it's worth. Either I don't go out much to restaurants in the Bruges region and the inflation has hit the sector hard, or this is way more expensive compared to other restaurants. The prices appear to be towards the high-mid range, but I feel that it is not equal to the value it provides. We will be thinking twice now about stepping into restaurants that we are not 100% familiar with.

The service fulfilled their tasks, nothing more, nothing less. I did not have the "what a friendly staff" experience that elevates the overall feeling. Perhaps they are underpaid and stressed out. Who knows. But they did bring me mayo when I asked for it.

Overall, I think there are better places to...

We had a negative encounter in this restaurant. I was visiting Brugge together with my sister and our parents, stopped at this restaurant and asked to have a look at the menu and then asked if we can sit outside.

After a minute it took until all of us entered the restaurant, we were told that there is no space outside. So we asked for a table inside (all tables inside were empty) and we were told that according to the management there are no spaces inside. The argument was that since it started to drizzle the customers sitting outside may want to move inside. But most outside tables were covered by a tent, there was no apparent intention in any of customers to move in and even if they wanted to do so, there were plenty of room inside.

The reaction appeared to us as clearly motived by discrimination based on our racial appearance. To the extent that one of the bartenders came outside, apologized for the behavior of the management and suggested another set of restaurants nearby.

It’s a shame that in such a cute and touristic city, such behavior...

Although the food was quite ok but the amazingly bad service from a boy made me not be able to give two stars. When I first arrived at the restaurant, he was asking me "do you want to have lunch or just to drink". I couldn't hear it clearly because you know, he was actually standing far from me, so I replied the wrong answer for twice still without him coming to my side. And what shocked me is his next words "My friend can you listen to me??" with a very very terrible attitude. So it was me then stood up from my seat, went to his mouth, listened to his question again. It wad just so unbelievable that one could serve like this. And at the end when I checked I said to him that I don't like his service. He wondered why. I explained my feeling but, oh my god, I received super bad "sorry" which he didn't mean it obviously and he replied me with a queston: "my friend was not polite?". I said I want to talk to your boss. And ok it was not surprising that he said his boss was at home. I just never feel such angry about a...
