We went by reddit recommendation as one of the best frituurs in brugges. Lo and behold we were not let down. We ordered a large portion of fries as well as some snacks and the favorite tartar Sauce. Took the team maybe 10 minutes to round up our order. The man handling the frying as the woman was taking up new orders and cashing them. The man reminded me of Jürgen Klopp and while He was still chatting with another guest he was loading up our fries like nobodys Business. He filled the cardbord box in which the fries were served to the brim. We sat in Amazement as Kloppo went on overfilling and overspilling the fries. At Last he had created an unholy mountain of fries, he then proceeded to pack up. With a large smile he called us up. We went over to the waterfront and sat on a bench. The sun came out as we unpacked the tasty snacks and our private fries-mountain. What else to say, everything was delicious from start to finish. The fries though were really something else. Easily one of the best fries I had across belgium, the netherlands and germany. The team of "frituur de gentepoorte" know what they are doing and they are doing it with pride. The two of us paid 16€ and boy did we get our moneys worth! So if you travel brugges and you are hungry for fries, on a budget, both or even none of the above, a visit to this place...
Read moreThis is a simple local owned mom and pops shop. Here, they actually fry your fries to order. They use proper technique, with a decent price and great sauces.
The fries is crispy in a light way. Think of a tempura batter. That's how it felt. The inside is soft and crumbly. There's a slight sweetness, and a bit of a nutty smell. Might be from the oil(peanut oil), might be from the potato.
The tartar sauce is home made. Very thick and rich, but I can't stop eating it somehow.
It's a shame my stomach is nearly full because I keep trying some other Frituur. If not, I'd like to try their other assortments like the burgers.
This friterie doesn't try to be touristy, hip, modern, or things like that. They just make a good fries the proper way. And I really appreciate that. They mainly cater to the locals. The place is simple, but clean. The married couple who served me seems very happy doing what they do. They have no problem answering some of my question about how they make their fries.
10/10 I'd visit again.
FYI, the restaurant/friterie/bar where I tried good fries but nothing to write...
Read moreOne of the best fries I've had in Belgium. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were really well seasoned too, you could see the salt crystals on the fries and it was the perfect amount. Their portions are generous in general, we ordered 2 mediums fries, and they topped up both boxes with extra fries to fill up an entire bag.
We also tried their kipcorn, bamischif and shrimp croquettes which were fine but they're not house-made and you can tell. Do ask for the tartaar sauce, it's nice and fresh since they make it themselves and it goes great with both the shrimps and fries.
Final tip: walk to the Gentpoort, there's a picnic table with seats near the water. It's the perfect spot to enjoy some deep fried food especially if the...
