As a South African with a passion for cooking meat over fire, I had thought that I had eaten the best that it got over my 29 years. I was completely wrong, as what I experienced at Koen & Marijke’s was truly out of this world. From another planet.

Koen has hand crafted the ultimate grill arena. Where he has all the sections needed to ensure a tender and perfect cook of the high quality meat that they serve. I was fortunate enough to sit right in front of the grill so I could watch him work his magic, and it was a pure joy to witness. He is a true master infront of the fire and just getting to watch it happen alone would have led to the 5 star review.

Then we get to the actual food. We couldn’t choose from the vast menu so we went for the “ Choice Struggle” section. Which is a 6 course flame grilled meat adventure. With carpaccio crackers, grilled Camembert, steak tartare (which was alone 10/10), a flank cut with chimichuri, the piece de resistance, the Rib Eye, and finally a delectable tiramisu to finish. We weren’t even asked how we wanted our meat done, Marijke just told us that we can trust Koen. Which was absolutely true.

On top of the high quality cook, delicious menu, the service, led by Marijke was exceptional. Friendly, prompt, excellent suggestion throughout and amazing conversations during. It was a true pleasure and we really felt right at home.

If you’re looking for a truly unique culinary experience, off the beaten track of mainstream Bruges, look no further and get booked in! I will be coming back to Bruges just for this restaurant...

What to start with?! We went there with thought decent place to eat but when we finish we had massive smile on our face because Eetroeg in ‘t Nieuw Museum turn to be a amazing place for diner for people who love good quality and well made stake and not only. First of all service who’s are also owners, despite was only two of them, done very good job and they are really lovely and friendly people who make restaurant feel very homely and also make you feel like you want stay there Little bit longer, even when you finished your meal. Owners also have very great knowledge about stakes and can give advice about type of cut and what best way to serve. I am myself steak lover and love cook them and this place made very good impression on me specially how they cook, they have big open grill with flaming fire and they cook your steaks and meats in front of you. You need to be prepare if you order stake it will take a while to made it but that’s what it take to make good cut on grill, you can’t rush otherwise you burn and destroy steak. Coming to food, well can’t say nothing else then superb I ordered lamb crown in port souse, lamb was perfectly cooked, tender, meaty and souse compose with it ideally. My other half had rib eye steak 4 weeks matured Montbellarde which was really prime cut. She ordered meadium it came as she ask. Was also tender , lovely smokey hint, delicious.

We had amazing night and diner in Eetkroeg in ‘t Nieuw Museum. I totally recommend to all meat lovers who’s can appreciate good steak. Thank you and we definitely...

Ok, I love reviewing GREAT restaurants. It just makes the review fun!

Let’s start with the staff! Everyone there is great! We had Thomas as our main server both nights we were here, and his charisma and beer knowledge are beyond what we could have imagined. So much fun. Koen and Marijke were great too, and the second night I had a great seat where I could watch Koen work the grill all night long (totally forgot to take a pic of the amazing grill 🤦‍♂️).

Then the beer list. Amazing! Not all 2,000+ beers from here in Belgium (thankfully!), but a very balanced selection covering whatever you fancy. We love sours and they had several winners!

Finally, the food. While the pics are worth a 1,000 words, I’ll add a few: perfectly seasoned and cooked, fantastic flavors, and amazing sauces. We had the local ribeye, the lamb chops, and the shrimp. All were amazing, but I particularly loved the lamb chops. The pepper sauce on the ribeye was fantastic. Lastly, get one of the apps (we had the fennel sausage) because it’ll come with Koen’s homemade butter mix… absolutely amazing, it’s a mix he has worked on for more than a year, it’s heaven.

Make a reservation though because the place fills up and there aren’t many walk-in...
