TL;DR: Don't fall for the "Amerasian Food" title, this place is just a standard fast food place with standard-issue burgers and fries.
GOMU advertises their primary food as "BAOGERS" (mix of a Bao-bun and a Burger), and their subtitle of "Amerasian food" indicates that they specialize in a unique blend of American (in this case, burgers and fries) and Asian (in this case, Chinese baozi) food. However, after having had both of the main items present in their menu (baoger and bowl), I can confidently say that the Asian side of the marketing is purely for show: The bowl was simply American-style fries, with cheese sauce and chicken, with nothing remarkable about it. It was the kind of food that one would only eat with the sole purpose of satiating their hunger, with no care for how their taste buds might feel. The baoger (the main star of the show) was very underwhelming, since it has absolutely no "bao" in it, and is simply a run-of-the-mill burger with slightly whiter-than-average buns. Buns which are just normal bread buns, and not bao buns in the slightest, as the name would seem to indicate.
It seems like GOMU prays on the average person's ignorance about proper Asian cuisine, and takes advantage of it in order to market itself as "Amerasian food" to stand out from all the other unremarkable fast food locations in the area. Unfortunately, it worked on me and I thought I had discovered a location which would actually offer a unique blend of very contrasting cuisines, only to be met with one of the most disappointing dinner experiences I've had in Brussels.
All that GOMU had to do in order to stand out and deserve to call itself "Amerasian food" was to make their "Baogers" actually be accurate to what the name indicates: make an American-style burger, with all the ingredients you would expect from a Western hamburger, but put it between baozi buns instead of the normal bread buns.
I doubt GOMU will be changing their playbook any time soon, since they seem to be quite successful, despite the false advertising. Hopefully another location pops up one day to become the truly unique American-Asian fusion cuisine that would be able to accurately create a...
Read moreI ordered my food on the touch screen, which was not easy to navigate, especially if you do not understand French. I took a seat and my drink arrived within 2 minites of sitting down, which was a good start.
I thought that my food would arrive soon after, but it didn't. I waited for 45 minutes but it still hadn't arrived, so I asked a staff member and she said that she would check. She didn't return with an update, so I waited another 30 minutes and it was obvious that I would not receive my food anytime soon, so I approached the same staff member and explained that I had been waiting for well over an hour and had not received my food.
The staff member spoke to her manager, who said that I could have a refund or have the food immediately. It was too late by then, as I had to catch the train (there were train strikes that evening). I didn't even receive an apology for the delay.
Having wasted around an hour and a half, I left the restaurant feeling incredibly disappointed with the service. I obviously can't comment on the food, but the only good thing about the restaurant, was that it had nice neon lights within the seating area.
I was really looking forward to eating the unique burgers on their menu, but due to this awful experience, I will never visit or support this business again, and I absolutely do not recommend...
Read moreThis smashed burger spot stands out with a unique twist—using bao buns instead of traditional burger buns. The burgers are creatively named after One Piece characters, and the interior design complements the theme in a fun and interesting way.
Ordering is done via a self-service screen, which keeps things efficient. The staff were friendly during our visit, adding to the positive experience.
The burgers themselves were juicy and flavorful. On my first visit, I tried the Bulgogi Burger, which I found more impressive than the Yonko and Cheeseburger I had this time. Still, the quality remains solid.
Another important remark was that the music was way too loud and especially the bass gave us a head ache after finishing our meal.
Overall: A great place if you’re craving smashed burgers with a creative twist, and the prices are relatively reasonable too. Worth checking out, especially for anime fans or anyone looking for something a...
