Black & White Burger Anspach — Restaurant in Brussels

Honestly, maybe I'm spoiled from good burger places in Australia but this place really wasn't that amazing. It was good, but not great.

The ordering.. confusing. I can order it from the self serve but I have to go to the counter again to pay BEFORE it gets made? Why don't you just let me pay when I collect the food? Very strange. I waited about 25 minutes before I wondered why my order wasn't getting made and had to go up and pay.

Anyway... Also the server didn't speak English, which is really weird as the restaurant name is in English and the menu names were English... But nobody seemed to speak it.

The place was quite noisy, and really hazey. There was this horrendous fragrance sprayer that kept spraying smelly stuff into the room near our table. What the hell? I'm in a burger place, I want to smell burgers, not some god awful fake flower stench.

The food arrived.. wow. What a let down. I got the double smash that looked like it had been sat on, it was so flat and sad I thought my partners crispy chicken burger must have been it as it was actually large. No it was just flat as a pancake and small, nothing like the picture. The meat was bland and the "smash" patties were basically devoid of taste. There was no charred tasty edges, they were just grey discs in between soggy bread. The chicken burger was okay. The sauce was a bit much, almost like a sweeter curry sauce. Could barely taste the chicken over the sauce it was drowned in.

The restaurant is easily accessible by public transport being very close to de brouckère mertro station.

Oudoor and indoor sitting place available. Very cosy atmosphere with modern looks. Clean and attractive with a unique design language !

Order takes place on a mc donald like machine. Plenty of options available.

My order : menu deal with fries and pepsi max + 6 mozzarella sticks.

The deal menu comes with 1 free sauce and the 6 sticks come with 2 free sauces.

Price i paid : 10,70 euros.

A number was associated with my order however, the lady delivered the food to my table 👍🏻 waiting time did not exceed 15 mins ! there was a mistake in the sauces i chose so the lady gave me 2 free sauces on top of my order. A very well appreciated act !

The food was delicious ! I particularly liked the mozzarella sticks 👍🏻 i also enjoyed the meal and the fries. It was more than enough for a big adult.

The staff were extremely nice too.

Toilets are available for free but you have to use the code written on your receipt, otherwise it costs 0,50 euros. Toilets are clean.

Delivery and take away are available too.

In summary, a very cosy place to grab lunch in the city centre that has great value for money...

English speaker here, two sides of the coin here: the “good” and probably the most important thing is that the burgers here are amazing, with fresh ingredients (origins are by the cash register, all from Europe) and quick serving time —granted we were not there at rush hour—

Now, the other side of the coin. The service is not terrible but not great either, it’s weird to see people who do not speak English (don’t get me wrong, it is absolutely normal but considering that this is the literal capital of Belgium and the fact that this restaurant is located dead center of Brussels while the bare minimum entry requirement of Starbucks is to know English…) and worse of all; when we tried to ask something in English they just ignored us. Furthermore, if you take a quick look at the comments, many are made in the same hour window praising a particular waiter, which makes it incredibly fishy and lowers their credibility.
