Where do I begin?! Firstly, both my partner and I wish we discovered Bacco sooner than we did. We adored the restaurant so much we found ourselves going back to Bacco every night for dinner; un-regrettably 3 times in a row! As an Italian-Canadian, with family from Calabria, the food is very similar to my Nonna's (this is the biggest compliment I can give ♥️). Not to mention, the quality, and the flavors of the food is 1000xs more authentic then any Italian food I have had from restaurants or bakeries owned by other Italian families in Canada. Everything we order was phenomenal, but what really took our breath away and warmed my heart, was actually eating tiramisu and craving more! Most "authentic Italian" restaurants back home cheap out and use whiping cream, dont use espresso and put no liqueur 🙁 with that being said please try the tiramisu! I hope this review helps anyone on the fence of going here, please take my word for it.... its absolutely amazing!
Lastly, my significant partner and I couldn't help but tip the service every night we went; expressing our appreciation for everything. Sadly, our last night there we didn't have cash on us, and felt horrible. So I hope this review also finds its way to the owners and staff, letting them know how amazing...
Read moreThe first time i went to Per Bacco, i was with friends i didn't know the restaurant but i knew the calabrian cuisine. Soon as we arrived the staff has been really friendly and together with the nice smells that was coming from the kitchen i would say it was a really nice start. In order to don't make us wait for the preparations we had chosen they served us a little pizza with tomato and oregano sauce(they always do) and the taste was amazing! But was only the begin, when the main courses arrived i couldn't be more delighted. My final decision has been "Spaghetti alla chitarra con frutti di mare", the seafood was really fresh and tasty and the spaghetti were for sure made by the chef, a luscious dinner. The portion was generous and very well welcomed. After the dinner we have asked for a coffee and a Liquorice liquor, it was made in Calabria and has been the perfect end for a really good dinner. But lets put for a second the food apart, when i needed to wash my hands i went down in a little stair and entered in the bathroom i have to say that was really well cleaned and scented. For us has been a really good experience, a cozy restaurant that guards the warm heart of Calabrian cuisine.
We already went back, and we will...
Read moreGot here in the evening around 21:00 without a reservation. After some troubles, the waiter found us a cozy table for two.
We came here specifically for truffle carbonara. It did hurt us close to heart hearing they used up all the truffles. We settled for regular carbonara. Portion and looks impressed us at first. But it ended up being too dry; the sauce was heavy, with loads of parmezan, which made the dish a bit too dry for our taste. Also, the bacon was well baked, but too big of chunks were served, so some pieces were hard to digest.
We tried the house wine, which was good. Tiramisu was excellent, easily the best part of the dinner. It's made of egg parfait, not mascarpone, which tasted great, and Italian. Oh, and I forgot to mention, they serve pizza as appetizers while reading through the menu, which was a bonus point.
Overall, a good place, but I'd say I'd go for pizza and other pasta...
