Overall, the food AND drinks are bad. The service is not any better.

The experience started bad by us having to wait at the door forever and not being assigned a seat. We eventually seated ourselves since no one cared that three individuals are waiting at the door. When taking a seat upstairs we are promptly informed that we cannot sit there. I guess the wait staff just woke up.

Now the food. My friends lamb burger was good. My other friend said his blue cheese burger was not so good as before, still tasty though. However for me, I was far from impressed. Since I wasn't really hungry, I just decided to order a cocktail and poutine. I just love poutine and it has been a dish I discovered back when I was in Canada. I've had it in Belgium as well a few times but strictly during culinary or Canadian related events. Man I can only tell you that it's the WORST poutine I've eaten in my life. That was not poutine I'm afraid. I got excited for absolutely no reason. The sauce did not even have any flavour, while normally you get a rich gravy taste. Not to mention that crazy cocktail of theirs which they charge €10 for. That was not a €10 cocktail but rather bad Iced Tea mixed which cheap liquor and/or spirits. Worst of all was that you could barely taste the booze. I didn't bother to order their craft beer of the month after that horrible cocktail since, it was Maredsous... What is "craft" about Maredsous, it's literally brewered by one of Belgium's largest marco breweries.

I did bring it to the attention to the staff that they butchered the two simple orders I made. But as you could already judge by the level of service, they really didn't care. Ellis used to be a nice dining spot but now they seem a mere victim of their own success. I think this is the first time I actually write a bad review but we were just, kind of shocked honestly. We called up front to ask if there was still a spot for us, and arrived 15 min later, me and my husband with our newborn baby in his carriage. We were guided to our table by a female staff member and started to put our coats off to sit down, when another male, more senior member yelled from across the bar that we couldn’t put our baby with his carriage there. I first didn’t get he was talking to us, as he didn’t look up nor came to our table to address us. Just yelled on a very rude tone of voice to move. I didn’t immediately get what he was trying to say (to just go away again), just thought he would suggest to help us find a better way to fit the carriage, or maybe move the table a little, change place as there were other tables available,.. so I asked him what we could do to fit the carriage better. When I asked him what he suggested we do, he bluntly answered with ‘its you who is the problem here, it’s not ours’, and gesturing his head for us to leave. He didn’t look at us again. Just turned away.. We stood there for a minute, both perplexed, and just put our coats back on and went out, just to find another restaurant nearby where the staff was actually customer friendly.
