La Meute — Restaurant in Ixelles - Elsene

I was looking forward to trying La Meute for a long time, and my first visit left me disappointed.

The service was so bad from the very begining, even when there was just one other table in the restaurant, waiters were congregating somewhere in the back without paying attention to the guests. It took a long time to order drinks, and any subsequent order had to wait and wave and catch the waiters attention, which took a while.

Starters were lovely, the mains were good, but unfortunately my steak was overcooked for a medium-rare, and it was difficult to flag waiters attention so I finished it. For €40 and for a steak restaurant I would expect it to be cooked better, even if a mistake. They did apologize with a small discount on the steak, which was kind.

Overall, for a steak restaurant that charges well for its dishes, it fell short of the expectations and in my view there are far better places for a steak in brussels in the same price range.

Maybe it was one off, unlucky for me, but would I return? I...

I would love to give this place 5 stars because it is really one of the best burgers I've ever had. But then one star less goes for the service. I was there with my boyfriend a couple of weeks ago, we were the first ones to arrive that day and a waitress came to indicate us a seat. She seemed quite irritated when I asked if we could sit at another table. I preferred sitting at the window, while she wanted to seat us in the corridor right next to the kitchen. She was not polite when she came to note down our order and made me feel embarrassed and ashamed for the situation (which should definitely not be a big deal!). Even though we were the first ones to arrive and to order, another table (which had also ordered burgers) got their meal first. Besides that, our burgers and sauces were switched around. All of these little details made me feel like the restaurant could make an effort to offer a service that meets the prices and...

Nice atmosphere. They don't take reservations and are full most of the time.

Our experience is both excellent and disapointing.

We were two couples and ordered 2 Cote a l'os, one rear and one bleu.

Bleu was perfect but rear ended up well done... They cook the meat with herbs. Adds a nice taste to the meat but just slightly too much. We had the 4 weeks matured steak which went somewhat unnoticed due to this. It was more appreciated on the regular Cote a l'os we had.

The service was very kind. Their card is not extensive but I feel like this is part of the charm of this place.

I would definitely recommend.

PS : should I have been alone with my lady, I would have said something about the steak that was far too cooked. From the overall experience, I'm sure they would not have made a...
