Ouzerie Mezedopolio — Restaurant in Ixelles - Elsene

We were a big group of people(above 20) and had a fix menu naturally. I must say that the restaurant staff organized everything very well. The food was to be shared by four people, the mezzes were good but portion wise they were small to be shared by four but as you order 4-5 of them plus the main dishes, it was quite satisfying. As main dish, we had fried calamar, small fried fish and lamb skewers of which all was delicious, again one wouldnt be enough but 2-3 different sorts together is enough to make you full. Everyone was happy with the service quality, the restaurant itself and the food at the end of the night. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, staff is very caring and friendly, and also helpful to accommodate your requests. The price&performance wise, the place is very good. The atmosphere is nice. The food as well. Only the 'htapodokeftedes' are really not at the same level as the rest, better to remove it from the menu. A major issue for us was that the bottles of ouzo (barbagianni) were already opened when they arrived to our table. The taste was really light and (to our surprise) when we asked to receive another one sealed, the waiter told us that all barbagianni were opened and refilled. They are reusing the small bottles. We switched to another brand (mini) for which they had sealed bottles and the difference was obvious. We have never encountered such a case and for sure did not expect this from an "ouzeri". Small portions for extremely high prices. A small portion of moussaka 19 euros. Greek salad 14 euros. 4 pork skewers 19 euros. Also, the pork skewers were sweet! They had probably some honey or petimezi in the marinade, so the taste was really unpleasant and not at all close to the taste of real Greek skewers. Also they were very small.
