Ellis Gourmet Burger — Restaurant in Mechelen

I've eaten here several times now and each time I loved the burger and the side dishes. I also love the interior and atmosphere of the place. It's very clean, including the toilets.The service is good and the people are friendly. They also have some nice homemade drinks. I had the strawberry lemonade (photo) and the icetea. The lemonade had very fresh ingredients.The prices are a bit steep but very fair for the products you get.

The restaurant has gone extremely down hill. The original staff has disappeared, and the new staff seem to be very unorganized teenages/young adults who do not like working. No 'please', no 'thank you', incomplete orders, rudeness, incompetence, filthy toilets, tables overflowing with dirty dishes, people begging for service and the staff... well they're sitting there talking to each other or doing stuff on a phone or laptop. Phone calls to the restaurant got actively ignored we saw, probably from deliveroo complaints I assume. We also saw food getting send back for being raw. When we entered, 5 tables had dirty dishes on them, when we left an hour later, they were still untouched. One staff member tried to do his best, but he was the only one. On the way to the toilet I had to actively avoid stepping on trash. It was a slow night with approx. 10 ppl in total trying to have a meal. When phoning to the restaurant for a reservation, the lady was very unprofessional, only picking up with "Hello" so i had no idea if i was at the right number, and the rest of the conversation was also not really professional. Anyway, we went there with our colleagues, service was very slow, fries were almost cold ( they were on the counter for a while before someone took them and got them to our table ). Ordered the Ceasar salad. I was very surprised to just receive green salad and some chicken with a lot of mayonaise or dressing or whatever it was. I'm not sure they know what a Caeser salad is... Well i ordered take away burger at 17.47 and was told it would be a 10/15min wait. Fair enough. Eventually after numerous polite enquiries as to what was happening the burger was finally delivered 45 mins later!! At 40mins i approached the (open) kitchen staff and was basically told we are busy wait your turn. The restaurant was only about 60% full and they were turning people away saying they were fully booked. Lets be honest this is a burger and chips place. Nothing complicated.
